This story is 100% true. After coming home in a bad mood, head low and basically just quietly morning over the loss. My daughter must have heard me say that I was sad over Arsenal losing because this is what happened a few hours later.

While tucking my 2yo (soon to be 3 in a month) daughter into bed,
she said, "Daddy, I sad...Arsenal lost."
I said, "Daddy is sad too."

My heart just melted and I had to explain to her that in sports there are always winners and loser, that is way sports go.

Then she said, "will Arsenal win again?"
I said, "They play Bolton on Saturday."
She said, "Bolton?"
I said, "Arsenal will beat Bolton on Saturday and then we will be happy."

Come on lads, don't make me out to be a liar!

That is truly sweet. I'm incredibly envious of your daughter, to be honest... You sound like a great dad! :)

Also, very impressive that she can pronounce Arsenal at such a young age! Any chance that was her first word?? :p

Kids develop differntly and at differing paces. I've seen 3 year olds with a better vocabulary than me and others who barely speak. It is weird especially when you try and compare your kids progress to other people's kids.

Catfish, great story though! My little girls has an Arsenal dress but is clueless to the meaning. Still too young (16 mos) to be into anything, but rest assured she will be talking Gunner strategy before too long!!!

My son turned 4 in November and he can speak very clearly-esp. when he is pronouncing all the names of the dinosaurs and when he says Thierry Henry-so cute! He is such a trip. You guys are in for it later with your girls-Catfish get ready because once she gets started, she won't stop talking. But it is the coolest thing to hear your child tell you about their day-or say something like "you're freaking me out man!"

bring her to The Globe

I think she'll get to vastly expand her vocabulary. Though Catfish might not appreciate it. ;)

of course

once I'm in the city I think I will be there every weekend. It is a lot easier to roll out of bed and get there as opposed to driving in from the burbs

My mate's daughter, Lauren, was 18 months old when she finally learnt to raise her hand in the air every time she heard "offside".

We'd be sitting at one end of room, she'd be at the other watching telly not interested in what we'd be doing, all of a sudden "offside" and without looking at who'd said it, would raise her arm.

Her first word was Arsenal. Mum wasn't to pleased. Also we'd sing "Oops a daisy, Martin Hayesey" she'd finish with "la la la la la".

Once, she was sitting in the shopping trolley in Tesco when she could hear "Hey DJ" playing over the PA. Of course any gooner knows the real words are "Hey yiddo, you scum. I wanna know where your captain's gone". You can guess what Lolly was singing. Exit one red-faced mum.

Kids eh?
