When I was growing up in what was then the USSR we played an insanely popular street game called 'kvadrat' or "the square". The game played by either 2, 4, or 6 players on grids of roughly 3x3 meters. Blacktop was the surface of choice. Just like in tennis, the objective is to have the ball hit the opponents grid twice in order for a score to be recorded for the server. WHenever the ball was served to you you could juggle it in the air indefinately using all body parts except for your hands, before returning it onto the opponents grid. This game sounds simple, but the more advanced players would do insane tricks and the battles between equally matched opponents were very intense.

Do you guys know this game? What was it called in your neck of the woods? Was it a strictly Soviet block phenomenon?

I played this game at soccer camp this summer. A heck of a lot of fun. Really improves your touch on balls in the air
