Again, Arsenal fail in the Champions League.
Determining why cannot be difficult.
It cannot be the quality. Henry is one of the world's best strikers. Vieira is one of the world's best midfielders. Sol Campbell is one of Europe's best defenders. Ljungberg and Pires are experienced international players. Ashley Cole is one of the world's finest left-backs.
So it must be the manager! It's his job to motivate the players and get the best out of them.
When Houllier was at Liverpool, they reached the quarter-finals in their first season (it took Wenger three seasons to do so). When Ranieri was at Chelsea, they reached the semr-finals of the Champions League! Most would say that Wenger is a better manager than Gerard Houllier or Claudio Ranieri, so why have they done better in the Champions League?!
Wenger simply is inept at this level. And this must be something the Arsenal board must take note of. I reckon if Arsenal continue to do badly in Europe, then Wenger's position should be terminated, notwithstanding how well Arsenal could do in the Premiership.

yeah, and the fact that most of the big guns disappear when there is a big game has nothing to do with how Arsenal play.

We didn't have all our regulars and your calling for arsene's head we can still bring the FA cup home and a summer that will have some new blood coming.

Cold thread!
But it is difficult to argue the point. Scoreboard trumps all.
The Arsenal organization must see European success as essential,
and getting to the finals has been beyond us to date. How long do we wait, and try again? Wenger has been great for Arsenal, and the Premiership - but what if he is topping out at the Quarters in the CL? Is that good enough for Arsenal?
I think Arsenal are good enough to progress in the CL. Arsenal are an elite team in Europe.
I think todays game could have gone our way, and the deficit from the first game did not represent Arsenal's capabilities.
But that and $5 will get you a coffee at Starbucks.

Oh for ********s sake how do people come up with this bloody drivil. Arsenal wouldn't be in the bloody Champions League in the first place without Wenger. We need a couple of good signings in the summer, some stars to give us experience. Thats what we need. Sacking Wenger, what next? Transfer Henry?

Rick makes a great point. Not saying that having Gilberto or another quality experienced player means that Arsenal go far in the CL but the fact that those players were missing this CL run does seem to make a difference no?

I agree with you Rick. AW has turned Arsenal into a European power, it is because of him that we have these high expectations for our club, I don't see how anyone can argue that it would be a good idea to get rid of him. If you think that, you need to get your head out of your ass!

Another point...
I truley dispise Jose's arrogance, but he has scoreboard. No matter how little class he shows, the only way to shut him up is to beat him.
Same goes for SAF - Arsenal are begining to take some of SAF's clout, but until Arsenal wins the CL, we are still looking up.
I would like to think we can win it all, with a good guy at the helm. But how long do we wait?
Also, this has been Wenger's team for some time. Transfers in and out, team depth, team age, team skill level - all are to his credit, good and bad.

How come no one ever says how great it is that Wenger takes a small club from North London into the final sixteen in Europe EVERY ********ING YEAR.
