Let me just start off that I support all German teams participating in Europe except Dortmund, but honestly this is really pathetic.
There is not a single German club left in Europe except the ol' grandmaster FC Bayern. German Champions Bremen thrashed 10-2 aggregate by Lyon, 2002 CL finalist Leverkusen crushed 6-2 aggregate by Liverpool, Bundesliga co-leaders Schalke and last year's surpise team Stuttgart knocked out of the UEFA cup by nobody mickey mouse clubs.
What the !&*^$ is wrong with Bundesliga clubs? It is really quite pathetic honestly.
I remember a few seasons ago there were something like eight German clubs in the UEFA cup and every single one of them got knocked out before the quarter final.

Germany hasnt proven anything latly, Bayern Munich is almost the last thing saving german soccer. As much as i hate Bayern, they are the only good team right now.
I agree with you, there used to be a lot more teams in uefa cup but know our best are best are getting beat by russian teams ( no offence but those teams we should be able to beat)
It's like football is a mirror of Germany right now.
We're going down, we should get used to it.
Let's quote Schneisler:
We are a nation of losers!

think positive
I didn't mean it all too serious.
I just hope Schneisler didn't do anything to himself after the game yesterday.
I'm tired of all this complaining here in Germany.
Things will look better, you can't be on top all the time.
Why should we deserve it more than other countries??

i agree with what is said in this topic. The only thing i don't agree with is how on earth could stuttgart be a surprise team last year when they finished fourth(worse than the season before) in the league, and achieved a last 16 spot in the champions league? Other that that, i agree with the decline of german football. Its a shame because just last December we were celebrating having gotten 6 sides out of the CL and uefa cup groupstages...

Thank God Football is only a game after all. The economic decline of Germany which is going on since the early 1970s and which was reinforced by the costs of German unification is the real problem we should worry about.

Bayern is the only top club in Europe because they are the only ones who qualify every year for these competitions. The fluctuation in the Bundesliga regarding who makes the top 5-6 (especially championsleague) is higher than in the other leagues. And so the clubs cant build constant quality teams, like they normally have too.
Stuttgart, Dortmund, Schalke, Leverkusen, Hertha, Bremen, Hamburg and Bayern have all qualified for the Championsleague during the last years, thats ridiculous. Look at Italy, always the same teams, England too, and Spain.
There are too many "top-teams" in the Bundesliga. So there are no constant "big-money-grabbers".
This year it has been Bremen and Leverkusen who have been new to the championsleague. So its not too bad for them making it into the k.o.-round. (Leverkusen winning its group in front of Madrid and As Roma).
Next year there will probably be Schalke and Hertha making it besides Bayern. They will have an uphill-strugle, too.

For better or worse, Germany doesn't have anyone willing to spend whatever it takes to make a championship team. For the most part the Bundesliga is as stable and balanced as any in Europe.
