I feel really stupid asking this question but ... What is an Addick? - and what is the history behind the name?

I have been following Charlton off and on and can't find an answer any where.

Thanks for your time! :D

Not a stupid question at all. Asked it myself when I started following the club.

There are various "histories" behind the name.

I prefer the one that says one of the former owner's surname was Addick. There is such a surname. Makes them sort of like the Cleveland Browns -- named after their first coach, Paul Brown.

Other "histories" point to the team's training table being filled with Haddock which somehow gets morped into 'Addick. That sounds too fishy to me. ;)

It has to do with a former owner of the club back in the twenties who owned a fish market. The pre-match meal was always fish. Well, a cartoonist did a picture of a Charlton player selling fish yelling out Haddock. The cartoonist either misspelled it or was trying to give it a good english accent of "Addick! Addick!" It has been stuck to the club ever since.
