Une courte carrière de joueur

"J’aime bien le court terme… On a tous besoin de challenge et le challenge, on le trouve plus sur le court terme finalement. J’ai eu aussi très rapidement l’opportunité de commencer ma carrière d’entraîneur grâce à Michel Hidalgo qui était à l’époque directeur technique national et qui m’avait donné la possibilité d’entrer à la fédération pour m’occuper de l’institut national à Vichy."

Premier pas d’entraîneur à Alençon

Invité de cette émission, Didier Billet, ancien gardien de but de l’époque où Troussier entraînait Alençon, est revenu sur de fameux entraînements que Philippe avait mis en place à 6h du matin. "Il nous avait obligés de le faire. Il avait essayé de nous faire passer un message en nous disant que si on voulait avoir des résultats, il fallait faire comme ça et cela avait été accepté par tous les joueurs. A la reprise l’été, on venait à 6h30 au stade. On s’entraînait et on se retrouvait le soir à 18h30. Mais tout cela est passé comme une lettre à la poste."

Un énorme parcours avec l’ASEC d’Abidjan

"Mon expérience en Côte d’Ivoire a fait que j’ai été invaincu pendant quatre années. Pas une défaite pendant quatre années, ce qui représente plus de 110 matchs. Nous avons été effectivement trois fois champions, nous avons gagné toutes les coupes nationales, les supercoupes et également une coupe d’Afrique."

Et logiquement, la sélection ivoirienne

"Ensuite, j’ai eu la sélection et là aussi, j’ai tout gagné. Quand j’ai quitté la Côte d’Ivoire, nous étions premiers du groupe A pour le Mondial 1994 aux Etats-Unis. Il nous restait un match, il nous fallait prendre un point pour se qualifier mais il y a eu une petite embrouille avec le président et je suis parti de la Côte d’Ivoire avant la fin des matchs et cela s’est terminé."

Et donc la nationalité ivoirienne !

"Je retiens de cette aventure des moments merveilleux avec un peuple très sympathique et très hospitalier. D’ailleurs, j’en ai bénéficié puisque j’ai acquis la nationalité ivoirienne que le chef de l’Etat de l’époque, Houphouët-Boigny, m’avait accordée dans le cadre de mon troisième titre de champion avec l’ASEC d’Abidjan."

Mais pourquoi tant de voyages ?

"J’ai le souvenir de mon grand-père qui a fait la guerre d’Indochine et j’ai toujours cette image de son bateau qui était à quai à Hanoï. Il me disait qu’il suffisait de lancer des pièces dans la mer aux petits vietnamiens pour que ces gamins plongent pour aller les récupérer. […] C’était curieux et j’ai revécu cette scène au Sénégal sur l’île de Gorée. Lorsque j’ai été contacté pour aller en Côte d’Ivoire, cela a été presque comme un rêve d’enfant. C’était pour moi une aventure qui apparaissait et donc je l’ai accepté. Toute ma carrière à l’étranger, cela a toujours été dans cet état d’esprit de découvrir plutôt que de voyager."

Nouvelle sélection : le Nigeria

"C’est la première équipe nationale qualifiée sur le terrain en dehors de l’équipe de France, pays organisateur. C’était vraiment un très bon moment."

Entre septembre 97 et septembre 98 : douze mois chargés

"Dans la même année, j’ai fait la coupe d’Afrique avec le Burkina Faso, la coupe du Monde en juin avec l’Afrique du sud et les championnats d’Asie avec le Japon en fin d’année."

Le Burkina Faso devient un pays de football

"Ca, c’est vraiment des moments très très forts, on m’avait donné tous les moyens pendant quatre mois : on avait arrêté le championnat, j’avais à mon service un effectif d’une trentaine de joueurs et nous avions fait des stages un petit peu partout en Europe. J’arrivais bien sûr avec l’étiquette du « Sorcier Blanc » puisque la Côte d’Ivoire est un pays voisin au Burkina Faso. En tant que pays organisateur, il y avait une grosse dynamique et j’avais comme seul interlocuteur le chef de l’Etat, Blaise Compaoré. On avait les moyens de nos ambitions et on a fait une très belle coupe d’Afrique : nous avons été jusqu’au bout puisque nous avons disputé la petite finale que nous avons perdu de façon un peu particulière… Nous menions 4-1 à une minute de la fin et nous avons fait 4-4 ! On a pris trois buts en une minute !"

L’Afrique du Sud et ces fameux grigris

"Vous savez, les grigris, ça peut très bien être une tête de chien qu’on a coupé à 256km. On avait toujours un sorcier qui, le jour de nos matchs, faisait 256km pour couper la tête d’un chien. Ce garçon, on l’appelait le chien rouge. C’était, à mon avis, une façon de dire que le chien était arrivé avec la tête ensanglantée… Il enterrait cette tête de chien quelque part et c’est ce qui nous faisait gagner ! Quand j’ai été en équipe nationale, j’ai été plus particulièrement confronté à ces aspects là. On avait effectivement des sorciers qui arrivaient, payés par le Ministère, et ils avaient des pratiques particulières. On les appelait les mécaniciens, ils arrivaient avec des sacs et ils devaient absolument laver les joueurs !"

Des causeries japonaises incroyables

Un DVD du style « Les yeux dans les bleus » était sorti au Japon. On y retrouve à l’intérieur presque 4 heures d’images fortes. A l’intérieur, plusieurs moments incroyables où Philippe Troussier motive ses joueurs.
Le premier passage concerne un entraînement spécifique des gardiens de but et Troussier était très énervé envers les trois prétendants : "Et pourtant, il y a en a un qui va faire la coupe du Monde ! Je vais vous mettre la pression ! Là, pas de surprise, vous êtes 0 ! Et arrêtez de vous regardez car vous êtes nuls ! De toute façon, c’est celui qui paraîtra le mieux qui jouera."
Le deuxième passage est la causerie d’avant match lors du premier de la coupe du Monde du Japon face à la Belgique : "Aujourd’hui, c’est un match d’ouverture. L’objectif, c’est de se qualifier. Il faut donc arriver premier ou deuxième. Aujourd’hui, le match contre la Belgique, c’est une finale. S’il y a un match à gagner, c’est celui-là […] C’est la coupe du Monde. On va montrer au Monde que le petit Japon, qui possède 90% de joueurs dans l’île, il n’est pas plus imbécile que les européens, qu’on est aussi intelligent, qu’on est aussi insolent… On va leur montrer !"

Troussier superstar du Japon

"C’était assez impressionnant. Il m’est arrivé par exemple dans le cadre de ma profession et de mes responsabilités au Japon d’organiser des conférences. Je me souviens que je faisais ces conférences devant 2000 à 3000 personnes et il y avait 2000 personnes qui ne pouvaient pas rentrer ! Je voyais souvent que l’on pouvait attendre une place et attendre 3-4 jours avec des tentes lorsqu’il y avait de l’équipe nationale qui jouait mais je ne pouvais pas imaginer qu’il y avait 2000 personnes qui étaient là depuis deux jours pour avoir un ticket afin de rentrer à ma conférence !"

D’où moins de pression à Marseille…

"Du coup, cela a surpris un petit peu beaucoup de monde quand je suis arrivé à Marseille. A l’OM, tout de suite, la première image c’est de se dire qu’il y a beaucoup de pression. Mais bon, il y avait 10 journalistes à Marseille alors qu’au Japon j’en avais 250 ; le stade, il y a 60 000 places, moi je jouais devant 80 000… Donc c’est vrai qu’il y avait une pression qui était plus importante au Japon, une pression sociale etc… Et c’est ce qui explique aussi le fait que je me sente plus à l’aise bien sûr avec ces expériences passées."

Son arrivée sur la Canebière

A son arrivée, à Marseille, Troussier avait donné une interview où il se comparait à un Lippi ou un Capello. Il s’explique aujourd’hui : "C’était pas l’idée que je souhaitais donné en tout cas. Ce n’était pas en terme de compétences que je voulais faire la comparaison, c’était sur le terme d’étranger. On me reprochait de venir entraîner en France alors que cela fait 15 ans que j’étais parti. Tu ne connais même pas l’arrière droit de Guingamp, tu ne connais pas l’arrière gauche de Toulouse et c’est là que j’ai voulu dire, je viens comme n’importe quel entraîneur étranger. Bien sûr, comme je respecte beaucoup l’OM, j’ai préféré prendre Capello alors que j’aurais pu prendre Dupond. Mais si j’avais pris Dupond, on m’aurait dit que je n’avais pas de considération pour le club… Donc si vous voulez, l’idée en prenant Capello et Lippi, c’était de dire quelque part que je respectais l’Olympique de Marseille."
Troussier a même avoué pour l’anecdote que quand Pape Diouf l’avait contacté, il partait au Japon pour signer à Kobe. "J’avais franchi le seuil de la porte lorsque j’entends un coup de fil…" Comme quoi, dès fois, cela ne tient vraiment pas à grand-chose !

L’avenir

Si l’OM arrive à obtenir la qualification pour la Ligue des Champions, tout le monde se pose la question aujourd’hui de savoir si Philippe Troussier restera à l’OM. "L’objectif de ma mission, c’est d’amener effectivement l’OM à la Ligue des Champions. Donc l’avenir, ce n’est pas mon avenir, c’est l’avenir de l’OM. Aujourd’hui j’ai la charge de faire que cette équipe atteigne cette qualification. Ensuite, il sera temps de s’asseoir autour d’une table pour discuter. C’est une mission qui nécessitera encore toute une organisation et moi, je ne peux pas concevoir cette mission sans un vrai projet sportif avec des gens sur lesquels je peux compter."

Point sur l’infirmerie olympienne 08/03/2005
Fabien Barthez, touché à la cuisse lors de l’échauffement dimanche, a passé une IRM ce mardi qui n’a rien révélé de grave. Sa date de reprise n’est pas encore programmée.
Victime d’une chute chez lui au retour de St Etienne, Koke souffre d’une luxation de l’épaule, il est à l’arrêt pour quatre semaines. Karim Dahou quant à lui s’est bloqué le genou ce lundi. A première vue, le ligament latéral gauche serait touché. Avant même son IRM ce mercredi, son indisponibilité est évaluée à 3 semaines, un mois. Enfin, Fabrice Fiorèse est toujours en délicatesse avec son mollet.

Fabien barthez , hurted to his leg during the warm up on sunday, passed an IRM on tuesday wich didn't reveal severe injury. The goalkeepers come back date hasn't yet been anounced.
victim of a fall in his stairway after the st etienne game, Koke suffers from a shoulder luxation (ouch) he wont run for 4 weeks. Kraim dahou hit his knee on monday. He should be missing for 4weeks.
Finaly, Fabrice fionrose is still in trouble with his knee .

Benoît Pedretti : «Cette victoire était très importante car elle vient après deux matches que nous n’avions pas gagné. Je dirais qu’on a fait un match intelligent en y ajoutant du caractère et de l’agressivité. Ce n’était peut être pas un grand match techniquement mais on a laissé passer l’orage et on a su marquer au bon moment. Philippe Troussier : «J’ai surtout pu décrocher un sourire quand le match s’est terminé. On se devait de rebondir après deux contre performances. L’équipe a donc su se remobiliser ce soir contre Lens. Notre adversaire était venu pour jouer et on a du élever notre niveau technique et mental. Cela n‘a pas été facile mais cette victoire est belle. C’est un signe prometteur car l’équipe a rebondi. Nous sommes 2èmes et il reste 9 matches à jouer, c’est ce que je retiens».

Comment expliquez-vous que l’équipe ait connu de gros passages à vide ?
P.T. : «Il y a eu des creux effectivement mais l’adversaire était là pour nous contrarier. Mais c’est normal qu’il y ait parfois des périodes de flottement. Nous avons été très compacts, on a pris des risques en jouant très haut et on a finalement été récompensé. Aujourd’hui, on était obligé d’être eu rendez-vous et on ne pouvait pas y arriver sans être à 100%. Taiwo a été très présent athlétiquement puis a disparu après une heure de jeu. Nakata a ensuite été très précieux dans ses passes et son replacement».

Quels sont les objectifs désormais ?
P.T. : «Notre prochain objectif est de prendre 9 points sur les cinq prochains matches. Cela commencera par Monaco à l’extérieur, Paris, Strasbourg, Ajaccio puis cela se terminera par Nantes. Il y a trois rencontres à l’extérieur mais si on peut prendre plus que neuf points, on le fera. Je ne veux pas d’objectifs utopiques, je me concentre sur nos ambitions. A nous d’assurer notre place de 2ème et de maintenir le cap».

I understand that the respective Ultras groups try and maintain separate identities, but wearing orange, which is an ugly colour to begin with, makes them stick out like a sore thumb. They should have gone with tradition Marseille colours.

they actualy whered bombers in the wrong side, especialy during the 80'. But i think this has no link with left wing skin heads since there isn't any skinheads at the velodrome.

Taiwo is « happy »
Since his free kick which offered the victory against Bern, Taye Taiwo is any smile. This goal, the first with OM, made him quite simply happy.

A few days ago, Taye Taiwo was courted by the PSV Eindhoven but the Olympian leaders refused the offers of the Dutch club. And they did well … Last Saturday, against the Young boys of Bern, this defender from Nigeria scored his first goal under the colors of Olympique of Marseilles. A victorious free kick which enables the phocean club to approach the return match a little peacefully.
Some Goals, this young player of hardly 20 years old is used to score some for a few weeks. Indeed, whereas the majority of his partners of OM left on holiday at the end of the championship, Taiye Taiwo went to join the junior selection of the national team of Nigeria in order to prepare then to dispute the world championship. During this competition, he scored two goals and a penalty kick which largely contributed to the fabulous course of his team which led them up to the finale.
A little further in time, one will also remember that Roland Gransart, trainer of CFA, had, after some meetings with the reserve, detected his physical qualities out of the commun run, and used to call him «Goldorak» !
