http://nydailynews.com/news/local/story/287559p-246209c.html"The Rev. Al Sharpton is calling for a 90-day ban on radio and TV airplay for any performer who uses violence to settle scores or hype albums.

"There has to be a way to step in and regulate what's going on with the airwaves and with violence," Sharpton told the Daily News yesterday. "The airwaves are being used to romanticize urban violence."

The activist minister plans to ask the Federal Communications Commission and the country's major radio broadcasters to back his proposal.I wonder if this applies to Conor Oberst getting punched out by Jack White or the next Lohan-Duff catfight?

While I agree our societies priorities are totally out of whack...this is an absolutely un-workable idea. Who proves the violence? Does it have go through court, like an actual conviction of assault?

I dont think hes saying this because he thinks it will ever be enacted or enforced, I think he's doing it to make a point, which is what Al is best at. Shine some light, get people talking. What IS becoming fashionable in the music industry? It's worth talking about.

I like Al. I think he's vastly mis-understood sometimes.

Didn't White punch the singer of whoever sings "C'mon, c'mon"? Or did he also punch Oberst?

Anyway, this would have no impact at all on my life.

My mistake, it was the guy from Von Bondies. They all look the same to me.

I agree, I don't have a issue with him either, but it's just not a very well thought out idea. And he's certainly not the first person to bring this up.

Dear Al,

Cool it Coyote. There's a new roadrunner in town.

Sincerely,

The difference is Oberst actually has more than one good song.

But I'm sure he would drop just as fast as the guy from Von Bondies.

(I didn't post the picture because it is pretty nasty: look at your own risk!)

Funny. I subscribe to this forum, so on my control panel page (My BigSoccer), the most current threads in subscribed forums are displayed, with the titles truncated.

So, just now it read:

Al Sharpton plans to shut...

Imagine my disappointment when I clicked on this thread and found out the next word in the actual thread title wasn't "up."

Music related violence is a concern to me...to paraphrase a comedian I once saw, "Listening to Nickelback makes me want to kill Nickelback".

Brian Posehn? I've heard him say something like that.

On a lot of issues, I like where Rev Al is coming from but he doesn't seem to have a destination in mind, and this seems to be such a case. Fabricating and/or encouraging beef to boost sales is silly, if not disturbing. But ultimately, consumers have to see through bullpoopoo - 50 Cent isn't thug, he's just a Connecticut suburbanite who drives his Volvo into the City every now and then.

Plus, I'm looking forward to the next Lohan-Duff catfight.

I would have a lot more respect for Ashlee Simpson if she threw her hat into that ring also.

Half this stuff could be curtailed by just shutting down Hot 97 - site of the Lil Kim shootout & the latest 50 Cent fiasco.

People who work on that block only half-jokingly say - "i hope to make it to & from work safely each day." it's in Chelsea too which isn't exactly a war zone.

and they also recently sponsored a b!tch slap contest where 2 women stand toe-to-toe and slap each other upside the head until one gives up. all to win cash. they just played a clip on Hannity & Colmes and it looks even lower than reality tv.

Conor Oberst fighting ANYONE, especially Jack White, would be something I would pay an exoribitant amount of money to witness.

Just to say I was there, y'know?

I would have alot more respect for Ashlee Simpson if she left her hubris at the door and quit making music.

Speaking of hubris, all these rap battles are really gay.
