I was playing fantasy manager in my head today and started thinking that Sigi was probably right and that we would need a defender by the time the season starts. So I am thinking loan. If you had to forgo one of your three or four top strikers and another decent player to go to england for a few solid defenders of some EPL bench, would you take it? Let's say these guys aren't starters, but they don't suck. They have youth caps, maybe...Think Whitbread. Maybe they throw in an aging vet midfielder to sweeten the deal. Keep in mind that the tranfer windows mean that you either the loan is either for the full season, or that you lose what you have to end the loan in September. So if the loan worked out well you would be killing team chemistry. Who would you give? Who would you want? For the year or until september. Keep in mind you would have to do the deal between March 14 and march 31.

It would be pointless to take a loan that doesn't go through the end of the season because the only goal of the regular season is to be in the top 4, how your team comes together and plays during the last two months (regular season finale and playoffs) is most important. With the parity of the league, as United showed last year, you can hang around in the top 2-3 all year as long as you come together at the end to win it. The Metros are another example of a team that dominated early, hung around in the middle then collapsed. Losing a vital cog of the team in Sept would set you up for a collapse.
Therefore I would not take it.

you could have the season long loan, that would keep your trades through January of the following year. So you would get the kids in March and they would go back to team x during the january transfer window next year. A full season. I think you would have to give up a bit to even get those players. For example, picking a team like charlton who are placed well but have trouble finishng... Charlton hand DCU Mark Ricketts and Osei Sankofa and DCU have to give up which forward until after the season?

You could probably pillage a few defenders from wigan or sunderland when they come up.
