I don;t think you want to stay anywhere close to RFK If you value your life any? :D ) I would look into the Crystal City area. That's in Va. still close enough to jump on the Metro and head on over to RFK. That's probably going to be your best bet. They have hotels/motels ranging from low to sky high prices.

Best hotel? The Mandarin Oriental of course!

I would look into the Clarendon area. Lots of nightlife and Metro accesible. One of my favorites is the Highlander which is right next to Mario's Pizza. It's an ok place with reasonable prices (back when I was in high school anyways ;) ) and they're right next to the best steak and cheese this side of Philly. We usuually stop there after United games.

Mario's is the best greasy spoon left after the sub/pizza shop in Georgetown closed up 3 years ago (I forget the name).

Sounds like you need a reservation at The Dangling Participle.
:D
Check out the Metro system here: http://www.wmata.com and they might help you plan which neighborhood you want to be in. RFK is ont he blue/orange line at the Stadium/Armory stop.
Many of the downtown DC hotels run specials on the weekends as most are used by business folks during the week (and if Congress is out they really might have some deals). If you're driving there are a few cheap tourist motels out on New York Ave, NE which is close to the stadium but there is nothing else out there (and the neighborhood can be a little dicey).

Strictly speaking, the Highlander is in Virginia Square, not Clarendon. I've never stayed there but it looks okay. Funky but in a good way.

Dude, if it's the beginnings of the flu, watch your ass. It's a nasty strain. It kicked my butt for about a week.

I'd check out somethig like orbitz.com or expedia.com and see what deals they are running in DC, especially if you don't want to get a rental car. There are a lot of holiday inn type places close to metro stations in NW which is the safest section of town. Of course once you find a hotel you like just post here and we'll tell ya yea or nay.

Maybe its just me but I've always thought VA Square is the most pointless subway stop aside from its proximity to the three Universities with Ballston and Clarendon both being withing 6-7 blocks away.
Anyways, I think Highlander is closer to Clarendon stop as the person walks though.

I miss living in DC a lot, but I think I miss Mario's (or is it Marino's, like the box used to say) more than a lotta things. Always on a Saturday night about 0230, after cruising Wilson Blvd. with my buds.
(Sniff!) (Sorry, OT but near to my heart.)

Funny you say that. Before I came to Pitt most of my time was spent in Arlington, with VA Square 2 blocks away, for most of it. It was always safe, near the metro, Ballston Commons, (and before I left for college) reasonablly affordable. Years later, memories of a neighberhood Clarendon seems like lightyears away. Does anyone remember back when it was a bunch of mom-pop stores, back when Sears was there? With the help of the Metro a bunch of quiet streets in Arlington, are not so quiet anymore.
For the visiting DCU fan, do not hotel near RFK. Crystal City, Rosslyn, Clarendon metro stops are a way better place for you to hotel at.

I grew up in Arlington (in Lyon Village) in the early 60's. It was a whole different world back then.

I'd say we were pretty close. We moved to this country in '59. Michigan, then DC then Arlington in '64.

If you say so - I'm terrible at geography.
Edited to say that I just consulted the map of the RB corridor that's hanging on my wall and you're right - it's Clarendon. I'm a dumbass.
Have you been around VA Sq lately? There's an enormous amount of development going on right now. Arlington really did the Metro thing right, if you ask me. Put in a metro station and the development follows. High density close to the stations, lower density as you get further away.
