During the week the Hyatt on Capitol Square is perhaps the most expensive hotel in Columbus. It's next to the State House and used by the rich and powerful when in town to lobby the government. But on weekends you can get a deal. And that's a good deal. But if you're going out after the game, take a cab to the Short North or Brewery District, because the State House is kind of a dead area after dark.

I hope we can do Keegan's again. I think it would be great to pack the place with red wearing, song singing, beer drinking soccer supporters.

That's the current plan from talking with the owner after the Jamaica game.

He's looking forward to hosting a huge bash after the game, more details will obviously be coming out in a few months when we start to nail things down...but expect the pre-night and post-game bash to be at Keegan's.

I'll be staying here:

I know other supporters will be staying here too. I don't see why we can't establish a car pool thread to make sure everyone gets to the game.

Thanks for the tip, I booked a place here. We definitely should start a thread about carpooling.

I'm going to do everything in my power to get to the game this year. This is a once every 4 years occasion in columbus. Hopefully I can do both the US-England game and this one this year.

I just checked with my travel service this afternoon and they can get me from Sioux Falls, SD to Columbus for $164 roundtrip. I'll be there.

Meissen are you planning on driving in from IL?

As long as that place has Newcastle, I'm there.

I could probably drive to OH and back, but with the flight being so low, and gas prices being so high, it's probably just cheaper for me to fly there.

Just booked the nights of 2 Sept and 3 Sept at the German Village Inn. Thanks for the suggestion. Looks like a nice location. Really looking forward to the trip.

My 1st post on Big Soccer, and 1st trip to Columbus. :)

Cheers.

Maybe we should look at getting a group discount at a lot of these hotels. If a ton of you are booking at German Village Inn I'm sure there'd be a way to do it. Everythings negotiable.

$59 is already pretty near any .kind of group rate, lets just keep booking there and make it party central.
As Walt Wheeler has mentioned on some other boards, OSU is home that weekend and there is a big youth tourney too, so hotels will fill no matter what.

That sounds like a good plan. The German Village Inn and Keegans should be full with celebrating USMNT fans! It's going to be a good time...

Traffic alert....Don't know when OSU football game will be played (won't have a time until TV is set), but traffic to Crew Stadium for OSU/Mexico could be a real nightmare. OSU uses the same parking lot (fairgrounds) as overflow parking and offers shuttle service to Ohio Stadium from there. And outgoing traffic uses I-71 both ways. Just a thought - if you want to arrive before the game and tailgate, plan on arriving at Crew Stadium DURING the OSU game. It's a mess for a couple hours before or after. FYI - Ohio Stadium holds over 100,000 drunk fans.

I would imagine (but can't guarantee) that the OSU game will start around 12 noon. With that said, pre-game traffic at the fairgrounds will probably start to die down about 11:30 or so.

Post-game traffic will probably start up just before 3:30 and keep going for at least an hour, if not longer.

The parking at Crew Stadium won't be a problem with the Ohio State game. OSU uses an area of the "lot" that is rarely used by the Crew. I've been to events at Crew Stadium right after Ohio State games (including the Michigan game) and there was no problem with parking.
