Starring Matthew McConaughey, that other guy from Saving Silverman, and the incomparable Penelope Cruz.

Steve Zahn doesn't at all seem to me like the picture of Pitt's sidekick Al Giordino that I've had in my head from reading Cussler's Dirk Pitt adventures. From the previews I'm guessing it's going to be high on the cheese factor as far as movies go.

I haven't read any Dirk Pitt adventures in a while, but Sahara has always been my favorite. I like the casting of McConaughey, but I am not holding out much hope that this movie will be too great.

That said, I am looking forward to seeing it.

The last time anyone tried to do a film adaptation of a Dirk Pitt adventure we had the stinker known as Raise the Titanic.
I'll go, I don't hold much hope though. McConaughey seems like an okay choice, but Steve Zahn? Seriously? Definitely not what I picture Al looking like.

And why Sahara? I'd rather see Dragon or Treasure. Not sure if they'd be an better of a translation though.

I think Sahara is a good choice. Personally, I would like to see Valhalla Rising though.

I didn't know that they'd done Raise the Titanic, just looked it up on IMDB. Looks positively horrible.

I also think McConaughey is a good choice for Pitt. McConaughey is a little more wiry than I would've imagined Pitt, but he'll probably do a passable job. Steve Zahn is a simply puzzling choice for Al Giordino though. Doesn't fit the character at all. Seems like this is how it went in casting: We can't get Vin Diesel? OK, give Zahn a call.

RTT is simply a horrible piece of adaptation. Yuck.

Not sure I picture Vin Diesel as Al either though. I picture Al as being about 5'6 and stocky. Vin is a bit tall to be him, me thinks. I have no alternative though, but I do know I don't want Steve Zahn. Al is comic relief but he can also carry his own, Steve would simply be the comic relief.

I wasn't suggesting Vin Diesel as Giordino, merely relating that they were probably trying to shoot for a star for the role, but obviously fell well short.

I believe this is an uncle Phil movie. Just remember as you watch it that this money might have helped build a stadium for Metrostars.

Vin Diesel is actually tiny...under 5'8 I'd say. They always shoot him to make him look taller

He was on Letterman a couple nights ago and was quite funny and engaging, but he was sitting down the whole time I saw him so I wasn't really able to see how tall he was in comparison to Letterman.

Ok saw it this afternoon. It was OK, completely different storyline from the book, but for some reason that didn't really bother me too much.

An Uncle Phil production, btw.

Saw it tonight. Very good. Throw away the book. It has very little to do with it, but damn still a good movie.

I like Steve Zahn. I like his style of humor. And I liked him in this.

Steve Zahn was funniest in Out of Sight.

I'd say Saving Silverman with Jack Black.
