For those of us (Like, say...me.) who never really knew the full story behind the Guns and Roses rock opus mega destruction trilogy "Chinese Democracy" ....This is a pretty interesting read.
And by "interesting read", I mean that it kind of makes you lose all hope for the music industry and bang your head against the wall a few times.
geez.

I imagine that at this point a bunch of those recording sessions have been leaked. Has anyone heard any of it? Any good? I doubt it (based upon the labored nature of the project) but I'm curious (despite not being a fan).

I read this article on Saturday (the Times delivers Sunday's Arts section on Saturday) and the section included an ad to see Velvet Revolver at the local sheds this spring. The irony that Axl-meets-Kurt junkie ripoff artist Scott Weiland has somehow gotten a second career playing 20,000 seat SFX-sponsored amphitheaters at $65 a pop with Axl's former bandmates while Axl has morphed into a Howard Hughes / Mike Tyson / pre-operative Maradona cross-breed is almost too much to take.

People are paying $65 a pop to see Velvet Revolver?!?

the producer wrote a letter to the editor tearing apart the article ... he contends the reporter didn't try to get in touch with anybody involved currently, he just relied on people saying stuff about what it was like 3-4 or more years ago. not that it wasn't accurate then ... it's just probably not an accurate picture of what's going on now.
either way, this album has already had its reviews written by critics -- they hate it and haven't even heard it. if I was axl, I'd probably save myself the headache. it's not like he's in any hurry.

I really liked Axl Rose back in the day. He really had that artistic genious.
I started to dislike him ever since I went to see them a Nassau Collisium circa 91' and though the opening act was off stage by 8:45 G&R didn't take the stage untul past 11:00. Really disrespectful.
I just went to a Juanes show at the Garden. THe opening act started promptly at 8 and Juanes was on about 8:40. Very pleasant.

Wow. They're OK, but nothing special. Maybe I'm just outdated on what I'll pay for a concert.

Izzy was always the coolest member of the band.Reminds me of one of the best Dennis Miller bits before he became a GOP stooge: "Izzy Stradlin got kicked out of Guns 'N Roses. What the f### do you have to do to get kicked out of Guns 'N Roses? Serve red wine with fish? 'Hey Slash, stop shotting heroin into your c##k, we gotta vote on Izzy.'"

Slash says 'Chinese Democracy' is real
LONDON, Feb. 12 (UPI) -- Former Guns 'n' Roses guitarist Slash says Axl Rose's long-awaited album, "Chinese Democracy," is finally being released.
Rose recently told interviewers his 10-year project was nearly complete and now Slash told a British broadcaster the album should hit store shelves in March, NME.com said.
"A very official source" has heard the complete project, the Velvet Revolver guitarist told Christian O'Connell's Virgin breakfast show. He would not, however, reveal the name of his "official source."
Another teaser? Oh and I found these links...

How do you take former members of GNR, combine them with former members of STP, and end up with something that sounds like Alice in Chains?

The GNR guys are older and going for a money grab, and Weiland has totally lost his (once excellent) voice. Hence, a professional, boring, purely commercial hard rock record - just like AIC.

I heard on the radio yesterday (100.7 in Cleveland) that Axl wanted to get into a NYC club afterhours. Management said no. Axl said he would give the club a "Chinese Democracy" listening party in exchange for access. Management acquiesced. Axl sent the driver to get the disc and in they went.
For what it's worth.
