MLS has some pretty awful club names. Earthquakes and Galaxy immediately spring to mind.
Grasshopper, BSC Young Boys, Rosenborg(sounds like a company that makes Krepes), Colon de Santa Fe(okay does this mean, "Anus of Santa Fe")

Mmmm, Soju.
You think Rosenborg's bad? Good lord. Colon de Santa Fe only sounds bad if you have no knowledge of spanish.
I never understood why people don't like "Earthquakes" either. For an American sports team, that's as good as any other league.
No, no, if we're going MLS it's got to be Real Salt Lake. It just seems like a joke out of Napoleon Dynamite.

Magpies and Baggies aren't official names. Earthquakes and Galaxy are. Perhaps they aren't bad in comparison to other American sports teams, but I think they are bad as a fan of soccer across the globe.
Another vote for Real Salt Lake. I understand what they were trying to do, but com'on. And since when did we have a king in the States?

If you hate Real Salt Lake, then you have to hate DC United as well.

Look, its our tradition and it makes sense that its respected in some sense. You want stupid names for teams, look at the South African clubs. Real Salt Lake might be bad but not quite as bad as South African teams with names like Santos, Bloemfontein Celtic, Peoples Bank Spurs, Juventus, and my favorite, Jomo Cosmos.

Jomo Cosmos.
Are you aware of how they, along with Kaizer Chiefs, got their names?

The hell you do. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought United was just a comment on the team characteristic. Real, on the other hand, means royal (correct?), and those teams were annointed, blessed, or whatever by the King of Spain. Real Salt Lake sounds ridiculous. Who is the King of the Mormons again? And more importantly, does he speak Spanish or simply like that one Spanish word?

Did I say we should not respect the tradition? I agreed that it was in fact in line with the Amercian sports tradition. If I feel the names are bad as well as the names of American sports teams in general, then it's my preference. But don't try and disagree with me by stating exactly what I said. I know it's tradition and most were named in that tradition. That's fine.

Ah, yes, I remember when Tampa Bay Mutiny forced the manager out by refusing to play.
Deportivo Wanka is somet special if you're looking for crazy names.
Arsenal
Blackburn Rovers
Pirates (South African) They never get many matches played, because they have to travel to away grounds by ship. Shiver me timbers, hey?
Actually, I'd love to see Pirates play Mutiny in a friendly.
Maseru Casuals is another team from Africa. Their name doesn't say much for the amount of effort they put in on the training ground or on matchdays.
AS Beauvais Oises in France. Nicknamed ASBO, in Britain that stands for Anti Social Behaviour Order, which is what the courts hand out to burglars, drug dealers and murderers to keep them from wasting money by rotting in prison. AS stands for Association Sportive.
I think the name, "Newell's Old Boys," is pretty funny, considering it is an Argentine club (I think.)
But there will be plenty of other names y'all can come up with, yeah?

That is how it's ment to be pronounced.
Unless there is this huge unknown Spanish speaking population in Salt Lake City.
