That was a pretty good season premier, setting up a number of storylines for the season.

Damn, Bullock gave Swearengen a serious beating meanwhile Dan's favoritism seems to be on the downfall.

Looking forward to the coming season.

Pretty good episode. I could do without so much Sy. He's the least interesting character on the show IMO.

Swearingen's speech on civic duty was great.

It was a great start to the second season. My only complaint is the brusing/blood on Swearingen's face when he pulled the knife and saw the kid and said "welcome to deadwood" was so ridiculously better than the swelled up mess that his face became at the end of the show. I know things swell up after a fight, but it was so ridiculously out of whack that I noticed it, and I am usually not that anal when I watch a TV show.

Good start to the season. I watch Season One this weekend noe the only downside is that I can't just sit there for 12 hours and watch Season Two, I've got to wait week to week. Man DVDs really spoil you.

It will be interesting to see the whjole story with Bullock and where they plan to take it.

I liked the first episode, and I'm sure it'll get better as the season gets going. But it seemed like everybody was a LOT ruder and talked kind of aggresively. Or something. Anyhoo, the preview for next week's episode looked great!

Great show to kick off the new season. I thought it was perhaps the best episode so far. Sheriff Seth Bullock and Alma Garret had quite a love scene eh? Wink wink nudge nudge...

I think I need to get my chops back, because much like when I first started watching this show I was having a helluva time keeping up with the linguistic and plot subtleties.

(Reminds me in an odd way of "Monsoon Wedding" -- which was equally unintelligible for the first twenty minutes or so.)

For example that whole thing with Sy and the prostitutes was confusing as hell. Who, what, why? They eventually drag you along via later scenes and exposition, but some of the tenser moments are the hardest to immediately grok.

Although one of the things I love about the show is exactly that -- the obsolete linguistics. Like when the prostitute in the carriage mentions that "The air's gone a bit fixed," and the kid fesses up and says "excuse me."

By the way, is the Ricky Jay character completely gone or will he reappear?

Last random point:
Seth Bullock = Michael Bluth (Arrested Development)
Two guys who think they're good guys -- and are good guys deep down -- but not quite as good as they think they are and who are overly tortured about it.

Discuss.

I thought so.

I think that is only because he hasn't been developed much yet. You can see a deep anger residing in him and at some point we'll get to see his ghosts.

Swearingen's speech on civic duty was great.

I heartily agree. If McShane keeps getting choice dialogue like that he could win another Golden Globe and possibly an Emmy.

Was that hair we saw under her armpits?

Yep. Sexy wasn't it?

That's the same with me. Since I tivoed it I watched it again later to make sure I caught everything.

- Great fight between Al and Seth. Just brutal. Lots of little plot points were thrown out there that people might not have caught. One being Al and his trouble pissing and his pains after the fight. He's probably got a kidney stone or something. Also Seth's sister-in-law and nephew always calling him Mr. Bullock. I believe sooner or later someone in Deadwood will catch on to the truth and that could then lead to something quite bad.

All in all a good first episode that really set the first half of the new season up nicely.

And once again it ended when I only wanted it to keep going. Damn them and their need to take a week before airing a new episode.

Great dialogue!

Gone. Believe I read something that he and the producers couldn't come to terms for money, or that he just didn't like the writing for the character, or something like that.

My friend and I watched the show together last night and that was one awkward scene for me to sit through with him in the room.

When Molly Parker was in Richmond filming Iron Jawed Angels she and my friend had a hot affair.

Why couldn't that have happened with the broad that plays Calamity Jane?

Dunno. We didn't talk about it. He got kinda hurt by the whole deal, so it was pretty quiet in the room. :D

I love Calamity Jane, that scene last night where she was passed out on the horse then she springs up and yells c0cksucker and back down brought a big smile to my face.

I really enjoyed last night's episode too.

That was a great fight and it really did set up the new series well. Lots of developing new stories as well as continuation of others.

Everyone did seem a little bit more pissed off than last season.
