I think he deserves his own thread.

He's leading the league in scoring with 19 goals right now and I don't know how he does it. :D

I watch him play and he looks nothing special but scores and scores out of nowhere.

What player does he remind you of?

What's his secret?

Where will he go?

How much money will Nürnberg get for him?

And why oh why didn't Hannover find him there in Slovakia???

He's an attacking midfielder/withdrawn striker version of Roy Makaay. An absolutely clinical finisher.

That's a good comparison, his play reminded me of Makaay too when I watched him.

i think hes a very intelligent player with sound technique... hes not flashy, not brilliantly skillful and not the most aggressive midfielder either...

he just has a great footballing brain and superb vision to pick out passes and obviously time his runs... makes great decisions - a real 'thinking' footballer...

i agree with Hannovergirl in that whenever he's playing he fades out of the game.He can't pass in any great way, incapable of dribbling and not the most powerful of shots - but he's an absolutely great striker. I for some reason don't see him playing on a huge team, i fear he'll end up like Thomas Christiansen - a great season as top scorer, then a change of clubs and mediocre since (you should know alot about that, Hannovergirl). I'd like to see him in a stuttgart shirt, but i don't see that happening since at the moment he costs too much. Looking at the WC standings, he could be a key figure in leading Slovakia to their first major tournament since becoming an independent country (at the momentm they look like they could reach the play-offs and then we'd have to see who they play). Funnily enough, although Mintal is undoubtedly Nurnbergs best player, his teammate Robert Vittek has so far been more successful on the national side than him.

Christiansen, what a sad topic! :(

I think Mintal will end up in England, I read Liverpool is interested.

I hope he will.Biggest mistake would be to sell him for less than what he's worth OR sell him to another german club.
The english style of playing would suite him good i think, he's not injured too often, and he's got a great tactical play...just what you need in the fast english league.

But imo the only german team taht could pay for him would be Bayern, and well...look at their midfield, nuff said. ;)

But well, i hope we can keep him one more season, the team needs to grow a bit more, after that we can replace him with some kind of other midfield guy.

money shouldn't be the big problem after selling him.

Reds step up Mintal hunt
by Vasek Kadlec - created on 7 Mar 2005

Liverpool have reportedly stepped up their interest in Nurnberg's
free-scoring midfielder Marek Mintal.

The Slovakia international's stunning exploits this season are
rumoured to have caught the eye of Reds boss Rafa Benitez.

Mintal has scored 19 goals in 24 Bundesliga appearances this term,
despite operating in midfield and playing in a team just outside the
relegation zone.

He was first linked with Liverpool during January's transfer window,
with German media reports claiming the Premiership club had contacted
Mintal's agent.

But renewed speculation suggests The Reds have increased that a notch
by lodging a €4 million (£2.75 million) offer for the player.

Nurnberg, though, would be reluctant sellers after officials at the
club admitted Mintal is their shining light.

"Mintal is our jewel," Nurnberg chief Michael Roth told the club's
official website. "He is the shop window of our club."

Nurnberg boss Wolfgang Wolf, who also eulogised about the 27-year-old,
conceding it would be virtually impossible to snare a replacement for
Mintal.

Wolf said: "Marek is irreplaceable for us and, in addition, his market
price increases with every goal he scores."

Mintal joined Nurnberg from Zilina in 2003 and is under contract until
2008, but the Bundesliga side's resolve may be tested in the summer.

With doubts persisting about the future of Reds captain Steven
Gerrard, Benitez may perceive Mintal to be an ideal replacement for
his talisman.

4 million...big joke.Give us 6 and Baros and we've got a deal. :o :D
