An upbeat article on the state of the league - nice to read one on occasion.

Regarding expansion '07 : Among the usual suspects: Seattle, San Antonio, & Houston; are Toronto and Charlotte.

I know Toronto has been discussed alot around here - which is why I immediately dismissed it - but I don't recall Charlotte being in any recent discussions...

And on that note, I think I'm going to start adding Memphis to every expansion list. Maybe if I say it often enough...

The article on MLS intrigues because it highlights the curious state of affairs with sss construction. It began with Lamar Hunt digging into his own ppockets to build in Columbus; it continues with Bridgeview, IL showing vision and enthusiasm by building their own stadium for the Fire -- as well as creating other options for the community with their own stadium. Building -- planned or actual -- continues, with most communities and teams struggling to find a balance between private and public funding.

We have a melodrama brewing in Salt Lake, with political twists and turns complicating the plot, as Mr. C works to move Real out of Rice Eccles and into a stadium of their own. In Salt Lake City? Or a suburb on the south side? Funded how? Don't miss the next exciting episode.

The news out of Denver is refreshingly boring: no news. They are just going to build a stadium.

Meanwhile, the farce that is New Jersey continues. We remain confident that DC will out-farce us in the attempt to build in Ward 6. DC usually beats us anyway, so why not beat us in the hardest-time-getting-a-stadium game as well?

But don't cry for us, Argentina. Our players get paid, and the check don't bounce.

Memphis. Charlotte. Memphis. Charlotte. Memphis. Charlotte.

I'm hoping that works. I would love for a team to be back in the South because if it was in one of those two cities (especially Charlotte) I could perhaps drive to see them! I really hope they take that into consideration instead of saturating places again (like they did with Chivas and would do by adding another Texas team).

What should we name the team? I was thinking we could go with Kings, or maybe get Roman Abramovich to help out a little in exchange for calling the team the Blues.

From the Metro-West article:
While the Kraft-run Revs do not play in a soccer-only stadium, it is still their own home. Garber says, though, he wouldn't be surprised in the future to see a local Bay State community coming forward and offering to build a stadium for the club.

Uhm, I sure as hell would be! I think that goes for a lot of Revs fans...

Well, we're sitting at just under $40; but I haven't heard from Fred Smith yet.

I could go with "Blues"...Of course the hockey team got the best one, "RiverKings". I'll ask Fred what he things when I hear from him.

I'll tell ya, that Garber interview gave me warm fuzzies.
It's F'n GREAT to have a guy at the helm who actually has FAITH and long term VISION! Two necessities when leading in business.
God bless him.

(raise glass)
Here's to Garber and the future of the sport in this country!
O'LE!
