Ok ok ok. It's been said again and again that we need a defender (or two). how is it that we keep looking at midfielders and forwards??

Because the new reserve rosters gave the team four extra spots, so why not try to fill them with experienced MLS vets if possible?

True, and I understand that, but it would be nice if some of those spots were filled with guys representing the teams weakest position. I keep telling myself to trust Nowak, but the CCC and the season are right on the horizon. (insert chicken little joke here). :D

or maybe there is a big-time defender candidate from a big club trialing this week and they just want to keep that low profile.

But if we can't find adequate help in the positions that we do need, stockpiling our deeper areas offers the flexiblitiy of trades. i.e. Adding somebody like Walker to the striker corps allows PN to move Tino to the wing. If he can hack it along the wing, then Dema is expendable......and tradable for the defensive help needed.

DCU should have already traded him to another MLS team for a decent defender. But I digress ..........

Good point.....substitute Q2, then.

Or both (for LA's allocation). Never hurts to dream...

I get the feeling that R&B is channeling Ray Hudson.
Giving us almost enough info that we can make crazy conjectures, and setup numerous thread debating the pros and cons of drinking and if we think his sister is hot.

We've still got several developmental spots left. There's no reason not to bring in a guy like Walker if he's willing to take that sort of contract.

He'd be a great addition to the reserve team. If we sign him he'll score at least once this year.

Wait, who are your forwards? Eski, Moreno, Adu, and some unproven draft picks? Adu and Moreno don't work together well as forwards. Moreno has a history of injuries. Yet some of you are criticising this move. How is giving a fast, proven MLS forward a chance a problem? Look at the Metros, whose forwards are Youri Djorkaeff, Wolniec, and Galvan Rey, plus umpteen trialists from around the world. Don't you think they'd kill for a guy like Jamil Walker?

I like Walker even though he did pretty much disappear last season after a strong rookie campaign and playoffs. Did he play his first game against us at RFK that summer? IIRC, he came into the game and the PA system announced Jorge Geddes was coming in. Same number, wrong team. Anyway he looked good and it was the first time I'd ever seen him. I think he may have cleared a goalbound shot off the line. The bastard...

Hm.
The team in my opinion had 3 needs in this order during the offseason:
1) A top player to replace Nellie
2) Depth at forward
3) Depth at defense
This helps with #2. News coming in is that #1 will be dealt with through our SI spot, and whether they find someone of quality is a wait-and-see thing at this point. Not sure about what we do about #3, but if Jamil is willing to fill the role, welcome aboard.

I like the idea of picking up Jamil Walker if he'll take a developmental contract, as he adds depth up top and has quality MLS experience. Trialing him also opens up the possibility that we are looking at other recently waived players. So how about Seth Trembly? I can't remember if he was any good, or if he's too old to go on a developmental contract, but I certainly wouldn't pass up the opportunity to fill out our reserve roster with players who are more than capable of filling in when necessary.

I do not think that Walker can take a developmental spot (he will be 24 in April) unless Walker was already on a developmental contract (like Kenny Arena)- which he was not. I think that he would only be only be eligble for a senior roster spot. Just like the possible foreign midfielder, if DCU wants Walker or any other than the senior center-back, somebody (i.e. Lawson) has to get cut from the existing roster if Van Sicklen did indeed sign a senior roster contract as was reported in the Wisconsin news report.
