What is the significance of the "US player pool" anyway? I didn't even realize it was something that officially existed. I though it was an informal reference made by people to refer to people on the team's radar. If Arena can call up anyone he wants, in or out of the pool, what's the point? Just symbolic?

It's just symbolic, IMHO. I think it's created more than anything for the casual fan who comes to the website. By the end of the year, or the middle of the year, there's often someone called up who isn't on the list.

Probably it works this way: some press guy looks at who Bruce has called into the most recent camps, who's in MLS that's a youth international, who's played for the US in recent years, etc.

wasnt a player pool released some time ago and it was only 50 players? now its 70 and spector is on it and i think adu and zak were not on the other one as well. interesting nonetheless.
