Tangential, and maybe mentioned in that "what do we learn from the NHL thread" that I wasn't terribly interested in following: Offer to Owners: $3 Billion for All 30 N.H.L. Teams (New York Times) (http://www.nytimes.com/2005/03/04/sports/hockey/04hockey.html)

The money shot:

Bain and Game Plan said they would run the league in a manner similar to Major League Soccer. Individual groups would operate the franchises, but all revenue would be shared as a single business.

Of course, the rest of the article is about how the owners mostly dismiss the offer out of hand.

From the Liverpool Daily Post on Ryan Nelsen:

The Blackburn manager said: "I just cannot understand why he was not picked up before. He has been fantastic; he came on a free transfer, and it has been a great bit of business.

"He's a huge talent - a strong man both on and off the field. He has presence, and I gave him the captaincy because I thought his performances merited it."

A couple more of these great bits of business, and MLS is going to be treated with a lot more respect around the world. Nelsen, Gibbs, LD, and DMB are showing what MLS players can do in a good league. Please no Convey discussions here.

I miss Ryan Nelsen already. that's pretty incredible that a free transfer from MLS has gotten the captain's armband after only a few games. That says alot about the kind of person Ryan is.

It would've been a better bit of business if they'd (A.) bought him and (B.) paid what he's worth.

MLS really needs a huge fact sheet that they publicize during the super bowl every year. I've seen politicians make fewer factual errors than some of the stories I read about MLS.
