Forward Alan Smith has candidly expressed his frustration of a lack of opportunities in big matches. Smith has been struggling this past month with an ankle injury and can't wait to get back into his groove following an impressive first few months at Old Trafford.

"When people come to Manchester United they say they want to be here to win things" he added. "I want to be an essential part in winning those things"
"For me it is vital that you have that sort of attitude. You have to want to be part of it and make sure you give something to the team"
"It is important to try and make the team better - that is why I came here"
I'm glad he wants to have an active part in the club rather than sit on the sidelines, but at the same time he needs to realize he just doesn't have the pedigree of some of our other forwards. His big advantages are his versatility and physical presence, so hopefully SAF can make use of him more.

I don't think there's anything in those quotes that implies that he's unhappy with us. He's just speaking matter-of-factly about wanting to contribute and play a role in our success.

He will get his chances... I think as a sub at first, but eventually he will get some games as we rotate players... I would not mind him playing in place of Scholes at all.

Precisely.
Just as when Stam stated that Chelsea have (oops! I mean had :) ) a big lead at the top of the League before the first leg of our CL tie, the press claimed he had taken a shot at United by claiming Chelsea were miles ahead in terms of class.
But I guess you've got to expect that. It wouldn't sound much of a story if the headline was "Smith states a fact or two".

Smith was our best player in the first half of the season (August-December). He picked up a lot of the slack when players like Van Nistelrooy, Rooney and Saha were unavailable.

Yes it is amazing how the headlines mislead the reader wrt what a player has really said.
I personally think that Smithy is the type of player who is happy to contribute any way he can whether he starts or comes off the bench to score an important goal for us as he did against Boro at OT in the 1-1 game.
I feel that he is one of those players who will stay for a long time at United and also play a very important role for us.

He should start based on how he played at the beginning, simpology.

Except for the fact that it would mean benching one of Rooney, RVN, Giggs, or Ronaldo. Kind of tough to do.

we could have mulitple options if we wanted to play him in the midfield
if keane needs a rest.....we could play both smith as well as scholes
if scholes needs a rest....we could play smith with keane.
does anyone know if he has ever played a match in the right wing position???? i was just curious if he could preform there since fletcher is out.
