This is just salary per year. No endorsement included.

Don't know who is the best paid soccer player (probably someone on the Real Madrid team)

Fixed Salary per year:

Basketball: Shaq O'neal: $32 millions per year (if I remember correctly)
Baseball: A-Rod: $25 millions per year
Hockey: Jagr: $10 million per year (not sure if he was the highest paid player last year)
NFL: don't know, though I would guess it is around $10 mil per year with bonus

Variable due to performance (no endorsement, just prize money)

Golf:
Tennis:
NASCAR:
F-1:

I'll track down these numbers when I have time.

Edit: Did a quick google search and found the following

http://www.forbes.com/athletes2004/rank.html?passListId=2&passYear=2004&passListType=Person&searchParameter1=unset&searchParameter2=unset&resultsStart=1&resultsHowMany=25&resultsSortProperties=%252Bnumberfield1%252C%252Bstringfield2&resultsSortCategoryName=Rank&passKeyword=&category1=Category&category2=Category&partner=yahoo

Only 3 soccer players are in the Top 50 highest paid sports persons.
Beckham, Ronaldo and Zidane. I guess all the money go toward transfer fees.

Michael Schumacher gets 38 Million € per year, thats 47.5m US-$.
And yes, I would rate him as an atlethe, because you have to be very atlethic to drive Formula 1 races.

if any race car drivers should be considered athletes, it is touring, f1, or rally drivers. however ill be damned if nascar drivers are athletes.

and just to rant, golfers arent athletes!

Actually most drivers lose about 7 to 15 pounds after a race. And that includes the hillbilly left turn tour.

If you've ever seen Michael Schumacher play football, you would consider him an athlete.

BTW, the highest paid footballer I know of is Sol Campbell - he is the EPL's highest paid, anyway (£125,00k/wk). I'm nto great with numbers, but that has to come out to about £6,500,000 a year which converts to about US$12.4mn. Nobody aty Real Madrid makes above €90,000 a week, in order to deflate egos.

No, F-1 supposed to be one of the toughest sport. you have to be in a top physical condition.

You need the endurance of a distance runner. Imagine sitting in a car under the sun for 90 minutes wearing a race suit undre the sun. On top of that, the wind speed is wearing liked a 50 pounds weight around your neck. So you need strength. I read only marathon runners burn more engery in a race than a F-1 driver.

Then, you need good reflex to drive a F-1. We are not talking 100 mph on a highway. Of course, concentration too!!! You miss a corner ... you can be dead!!!

I`ve read Tiger Woods has earned more last year than Schumacher. But that includes marketing money, too, not only salary.

If your counting ads, Beckham will win the prize for money-making without a sweat.

Although Real Madrid salaries may be lower than sol Campbell's, Players such as Beckham, Ronaldo, and Zidane earn more. Beckham's salary was €6.4M last season, which is €123K per week. However, his advertising deals were worth €11.4M.

Yeah, dog. Tetherball has it's merits....

Dammit! I wish I had paid more attention to the ball on the string! Zizou would be my housekeeper today. Oh well! Que sera, sera.

considering one pound of fat loss equals 3500 calories burned, i would say at least 90% of that weight is due to sweat/water loss. lock my friends and myself in a hot room with madden and winning eleven for a day and i will lose that.

i read about four years ago del piero was earning over 100k a week. he is probably still earning the same range. i know they are several footballers in the 100k a week range.

this is from football transfers in 2003, the beckham figure must be off cos i know he wasnt making that much from united.
