hello all-
I'm a producer for Fox Soccer Channel and I will be shooting with the National team this weekend for a campaign that I'm working on. In short, I will be showing the players doing different tricks with the ball. I need to tell the National team's PR guy a list of players I want to use. I want to hear from you the fans on what players you would like to see in this promo. Who do you think are the most popular players, which players have the most skills with the ball, etc. Your comments will be lots of help. Thank you.

Well, we know Clint can handle his balls, he showed Leinen up close and personal.

But is that a trick we want detailed on FSC?

Splitting these posts from the main "US vs Colombia on FSC?" thread, because I thought that this was a great idea for a topic on its own merits.

Of the players in camp...

That's if you're looking for guys who can do some goofy ******** with a soccer ball.

Mathis
Johnson
Martino
Gaven

Ditch your shoddy commentators and go with me, I'm fantastic behind the Mic.

Anyway, I'd say you go with Frankie Hejduk and have him teach the art of the stepover move. Why not throw some comic relief in the mix. :D

I would enjoy seeing goofy ball tricks from GAM, Eddie Gaven, Mathis, Dempsey and the most entertaining feature of all would be Frankie's stepover move.

Among the MLS group I have no idea who's best at doing tricks with the ball (man, it's hard to write that without sounding dirty). I think for a publicity feature it would be best to focus on players that have a lot of personality or something of a high profile. Thus I'd suggest:

--Clint Mathis because he can always be counted on for some showboating
--Eddie Johnson because he has skills and is probably the most exciting young player stateside
--Cobi Jones because he's probably the most recognizable/recognized player in this group to the general population
--I'd also add Twellman, Martino, Gaven, and maybe Dempsey to that group--they're all young, exciting players with some serious skills

Clint Dempsey's got some tricks up his sleeve. Kyle Martino is a technical wizard. It would be neat to see Martino demonstrate the Elastico. It's one of the famous moves in Ronaldinho's repertoire, but it is also in Kyle's I believe.

Dempsey (stepovers), Gaven (360 spin), Martino (Elastico) and Mathis (lots in his bag o' tricks) would be my picks.

You could have a do and don't section featuring Dempsey's and Frankie Hejduk's stepovers. :D

If Mathis can gun a couple free kicks at high speed it would a)be cool and b) show us he can still do that.

I'm going to reiterate my desire to see Frankie. His stepover is easily the most widely acclaimed move on bigsoccer. Unfortunately, he isn't given the freedom to break out what must be a wide arsenal of moves.

Dempsey, Martino, great, sure - but nothing would be more memorable or attention-grabbing than Hejduk breaking out a few new tricks.

In all seriousness, ask the players who's got the best tricks. Believe me they know. You always know who's got the best skills on the team you're on. Ask enough of the guys and coaches and you'll get the 5 or 6 names you need.

Personally I want to see:

Mathis
Martino
Dempsey
Gaven
Mastroeni
Johnson

So are you guys showing the US/Colombia friendly live or what? :p

Unfortunately, your filming session coincides with a time when the European-based players are not in camp. Some of the MLSers might have some nifty moves, but few of those guys are starting XI material at present. The one exception for me is Mathis, who possesses the best long-distance shot on the Nats.

Oh, and if you want a slo-mo Frankie Hejduk step-over, just film it in real time.

This might be the saddest thing I've ever seen on bigsoccer.

I guess I'm the only one here who thinks parading soccer players around doing stupid tricks with the ball is less than amusing..

Personally, I'd rather see Fox Soccer Channel come up with a correct diagram of the starting X1.. Been watching FSC (and FSW) for years and they still haven't been able to get a simple starting X1 right..
