I thought it would be interesting to create a specific thread to post some data about Brazil, its population and culture, the main cities etc. The main idea is to make things easier to anyone who want to understand the country and the context in which football is so important.
Population:
2/3/2005 / 19h59min
We are now in Brazil:……………………183.163.120
In the world:……………………………..6.422.012.913

How many players of football there are in Brazil?
It's a tough question. I know for sure that there are more than 10 thousand professional football players in Brazil. But I don't know the exact number. A few months ago I read an article about Brazilians playing abroad (around 5 thousand). Maybe someone here in BS can answer your question correctly.

Lol,that's true,really true.
Anyways,I believe something about 6k players. And 85% receive something about 200-300 dollars per month.
It's very funny.Different from Europe,we Brazilians support squads even if we live 3000 km away. The majority of Flamengo supp. stays at Nordeste, like an example.
A good example here(São Paulo) is when I say that sometimes I see Nacional games. And they don't even know what club is Nacional(founded in 1917,at West Part of the city :o )...but he knows things about Paysandu,Naútico,Goiás...who are very far from here.

How many players of football there are in Brazil?
Too many to really count. Many of the bigger clubs in Brasil have youth teams and even some kind of academy for younger players. And then there are semi-pro teams as well. There are loads and loads of football players.

Sort of funny but one of my best friends hates football. It is one of those things where I think he hates it just to be contrary. And then there are a few guys where I live, one from Goias, who whenever we hang out says he is a Dallas Cowboys fan when someone finds out he's Brazilian and mentions Ronaldo.

I live in Curitiba (Paraná), next to Santa Caratina, 300 km from Florianópolis. I've been there a few times. Santa Catarina has an amazing coast and friendly people. Floripa is the magic island, a place where you forget the world outside. :)

I don't have much else to say but, wow!
So is it a happening place year-round, or only in the summertime?
So where is the best place to stay, like with the nightlife?

I just returned from Brazil on March 4th. And I know this is a little off-topic, but I want to thank Brazilians for their hospitality and warmness during the month I spent there. Carnaval was amazing. I really find myself addicted to Brazil, and not a day goes by where I don`t think about being there. My friends here in Canada really think I am crazy, but I want to live here, meet a woman and hopefully have a family.
2 points though, I was in Guarahal (maybe wrong spelling) airport in Sao Paulo, and I mentioned that I loved Bahia, and hoped to live there someday. I was given a look as if I was crazy. Has anyone here ever been to this part of Brazil? I`ve heard there`s somewhat of a little bias towards the Nordeste area of the country amongst people from the wealthier southern states. I guess perhaps because it`s not as wealthy, but nevertheless I really love Salvador. I even encountered a Italian man on my flight who has lived there for the past 28 years and said he loved it even more than Rome where he was born.
And secondly a little serious and humourous, I find every person has a FI driver mentality whenever they`re behind the wheel of their cars. Even the bus drivers drive like Ayrton Senna, lol.

If possible can you tell me, what is the average monthly wage of a Brasileiro 1st division player? I know the top players go to Europe for more money, but many players spend their entire careers in Brazil.

There is a wide range for salaries in Brazil. It depends on where you live, on your talent, for whom you work etc. It's the same for football players. In the Série A it will depend on the team. But I don't think there is an average wage. Press only talks about big salaries.

Bahia is a special place, the very heart of Brazil. I’m going there with my family by the end of the year. My kids are driving me crazy all the time about “when do we go to Bahia???” :)

Regrettably no....many people hadn`t even heard of it strangely enough. I went in Shopping Barra, Lojas Americana, they didn`t have it either. I found it at Blockbusters, but they refused to sell it to me because they only had it for rental.
I am going to have to wire some money to some contacts down there to ship me 2 DVD`s, one for me, and one for my Carioca friend a gift. I was really looking forward to bringing one back for him as a surprise. He doesn`t know of this DVD, is 45 years old, and never saw Pele play as he came to Canada in 1971. Now I`ve heard some people say you need a DVD that reads R4 discs, I`m not certain what that is.
