Thought I would let you know how Ryan is doing at Blackburn. He is fast becoming a fan favourite at Rovers. To be honest we had'nt really heard of him at all before he arrived,we knew he had played at DC and was captain of N.Z. but we don't really get any coverage of MLS to speak of,so the expectancy was'nt too high over here.He has played in the centre of defence and at full back for us and has'nt had a bad game yet.He has shown good ability on the ball as well as an obvious skill for defending and power in the air.He wore the captains armband in the F.A. Cup replay against the Scum of Burnley,or Dingles,as we call them. Our regular captain was suspended and Ryan did a great job and got MOTM as you know.We also have Jemal Johnson at the Rovers who is a young striker who was born in New Jersey and moved to the UK at five years old as well as our long standing hero Brad Friedel.
It's a great thing for the MLS if players like Nelsen make a success of it over here , it shows that the league is making good progress and if the Premier League sees that players can come over and do well, there may well be an interest in having player exchanges from the UK to give squad members good experince as is already done on the continent.Rovers are 2 games from the F.A. Cup final,so you never know,Ryan could have a chance at lifting the cup.

Good thing for him he got some practice lifting cups in MLS as well.

:D

We're very proud of him over here. I just wish someone had promoted him from Captain to Admiral before he left.

Thanks for the post, I can only speak for myself but I am almost certain everyone enjoys hearing reports on how OUR Captain is doing.
Hopefully he can help bring Blackburn success.

Plus, he's raising (a bit) some of the opionions about MLS...

From the BRFCS boards (http://www.brfcs.co.uk/mb/index.php?showtopic=11196&st=0):

"If Nelsen is an example of a MLS footballer I'd like to see more MLS players come over and play at Ewood!"

Of course, there was also this:

"...His performances have been remarkable, considering that he was playing in the MLS."

Sigh...if you visit you'll see my understated, gentle response...and, Pints, that I borrowed the Nelsen cup picture.

And Leighmac...welcome to the DC United boards. Don't be a stranger. We're a team with a strong tradition and fanatical supporters.

our long standing hero Brad Friedel.

Don't forget, my friend, that Friedel too played in MLS.

Several MLS teams have a good track record of sending players to Europe, including DC United (also Sanneh to the Bundeliga) and Chicago Fire (Beasley to PSV Eindhoven, Bocanegra to Fulham).

And roughly half of the USA's World Cup quarterfinalist team was playing in MLS at the time, with several others being MLS alums who moved to Europe.

Thanks for posting here.
