I believe the mystery guest will be Colombia. There is already talk of it in the Colombian press.

Edit: I couldn't find evidence of this online so it's only a rumor.

Full schedule. Costa Rica, Canada, and Cuba in our group. (http://www.concacaf.com/competitions/goldcup/2005/downloads/GC2005_english_scheduleV4.pdf)

July 7: Cuba in Seattle.
July 9: Canada in Seattle.
July 12: Costa Rica in Foxboro

Then the 16th if we finish in the top two at Foxboro, facing either the Group A winner (second in Group B) or third place from either Group A or C. If we finish third in Group B, we may get a match in Houston on the 17th.

Semis and final are in the Swamp on the 21st and 24th.

Looks like the Seattle Times is saying USA in the group playing in Seattle (not a big surprise based on the way the group geographies were laid out).

I'd hope there'd be no reason we'd finish 3rd in this group. Depending on the team we send, I could see us having trouble with Costa Rica, but for all intents and purposes, we need to win this group...

Not that this was unexpected but we are in the group of "C" That Cuba match would have been very interesting in Miami. The Canada match in Seattle makes sense.

Ay Por Dios!

It would be great if they could reschedule the games so that both could be televised by ESPN2.

Only 4 months to figure it out. Can they do it????  :p

Even better, if they could televise the double header AND an MLS game.

I'd imagine that the English language rights are still available.

I'd imagine that the English language rights are still available.
From what I recall reading, only if someone wants to pay Univision or Telemundo (one of whom owns exclusive distribution rights in all languages) a HUGE sum of money to get them to wave their exclusivity. Probably not worth SUM's while for games that won't get huge ratings and have no bearing on our WC status. But we'll see.

All games in the tournament will be televised live on Univision, Galavision, or Telefutura.

So Colombia is the additional team...not a blockbuster.
If CONMEBOL qualifing ended today Colombia would not be going to Germany, they would not even be the 5th place team playing Oceania in a playoff for a spot.

Not that South Africa is a blockbuster team either but they are leading their group in Africa qualifing.
