The Yank looks interesting. I wonder how Elijah Wood will fit in as a hooligan?

The film is actually called "Hooligans." "The Yank" was a working title used to trick West Ham into letting them film at Upton Park.

What's the deal with the cast changes in this movie? I saw that Diego Luna and Stellan Skarsgard were supposed to star, but now they're both out.

Theyre on their second director too, it's a sure sign something about the movie sucks like few things suck in this life.
They did shoot some scenes at Loftus Road though so ill probably be a sucker and go see it.

According to this article, Santiago Munez is actually the name of the player in the movie, not the actor playing him:

Will Munez play for the U.S., or Mexico, is the question. And did MLS even scout him? Seems like a perfect player for Chivas USA. Man does this kind of stuff piss me off and no I do not have any kind of a grip on reality.

It's now been retitled Green Street for UK distribution. It will remain Hooligans everywhere else.
I've got my tix to see it at the Atlanta Film and Video Festival this Friday. I'm excited. I think it will be an interesting film, and from what I understand, it understands but certainly does not endorse hooliganism.

But when Brit Glen Foy, an amiable former football player and sometime scout spots Santiago at a local match, he recognises a deft, fast and brave footballer—the kind of talent that the English Premiere League Club, Newcastle United, is hungry for. Now thrust into a foreign land where football is a religion and Newcastle’s St. James Park its cathedral, this young Latin American must prove that he’s got the grit and the game to win a contract with one of the most beloved football clubs in the world. Muddy fields, cold winds and crunching blows from teammates—not to mention personal woes, injuries, and the temptations of life as an international footballer—are just a few of the obstacles Santiago must overcome to reach his ultimate 'Goal'.
