The CBF have belated confirmed this fact. Additionally, they say a game in December will take place and with players from Brazilian clubs only. An interim coach will take charge.

Most likely that game in December will be vs some Eastern European team like Poland, Yugoslavia, or Slovakia!! Hopefully not that weak team from Iceland again!!

Ok, I'll do it....
Roster:
Goalkeeper: Dida (AC Milan, Italy)
Defenders: Belletti (Villareal, Spain), Cafu (AS Roma, Italy), Serginho (AC Milan, Italy), Roberto Carlos (Real Madrid, Spain), Juan (Bayer Leverkusen, Germany), Lucio (Bayer Leverkusen, Germany), Edmilson (Olympique Lyon, France)
Midfielders -- Emerson (AS Roma, Italy), Gilberto Silva (Arsenal, England), Flavio Conceicao (Real Betis, Spain), Juninho Pernambucano (Olympique Lyon, France), Ze Roberto (Bayern Munich, Germany)
Forwards -- Amoroso (Borussia Dortmund, Germany), Franca (Bayer Leverkusen, Germany), Denilson (Real Betis, Spain), Ronaldo (Real Madrid, Spain), Ronaldinho (Paris St Germain, France), Luizao (Hertha Berlin, Germany)
Thoughts? Good to see some mix of players. Zagallo has guaranteed a return to the 4-4-2. Surprised to see Cafu, but Zagallo sounds like he wants to win in his farewell - plus to ensure that the WC title doesn't seem misplaced if Brasil goes and loses to S. Korea and Paraguay.
It's almost become apathy if Brasil doesn't play well in games that aren't important. Would be nice to get that pride back that they can win anytime, anywhere and don't need 1 month of dedicated practice to put a decent side together.
Brasil-based players to be announced next week I believe.
There's another friendly date the CBF scheduled for December. No date, no venue, no opponent yet. Good ol' CBF. It's nice to know there's things in life to rely upon..

Extremely potent side - I'd say stronger than even the WC roster once the CBF players are announced. I like the mixture - some of the old and some of the new. Not too bad. hahaha - maybe Romario gets the call he was begging for in his "farewell" match? ;)
Hmm... who will come up from the CBF besides Kaka?
Of course some players will probably not be available with injury, but still, the lineup and players - that is a very impressive selection.

I'm not sure substituting Rivaldo and Juninho Paulista for Juninho Pernambucano and Ze Roberto is exactly even - though either player probably could have substituted for Paulsita fairly and allowed Brasil to have a better mix in the midfield, instead of offense only or defense only (Kleberson only truly got going on the offensive end in the final - the sacrifice you make for not giving hmi more playing time during qualifiers).
Juan for Roque Junior is a pretty even trade or upgrade - especially since in hindsight Rq Junior could have had a better cup. Serginho for Junior at left back is an upgrade - never heard why Scolari didn't call him. I guess Junior was more familiar and safe pick.
Amoroso probably would have provided more than Edilson, who unfortunately left his best football in Brasil during the cup. I don't think Franca fares much better at the international level, but he deserves another look for certain.
Of Brasil based players, I would expect to see either Anderson Polga called - who I thought played very well up to and including the cup, though I don't know how he did this year. And I forget his name, but the center back for Santos looks quite good.
And Julio Cesar from Flamengo? Has Helton played his way out of the golero cycle?
I would say no way Marcos and Rogerio Ceni would be invited because of age, but this appears to be a game where Zagallo is bringing the best he has right now, so at least Marcos is probable.

Plus I'm quite sure that Zagalo hasn't forgotten that the feud between Edilson and Petkovic at Flamengo cost him to leave!! I'm wondering how on earth did Franca(who couldn't even buy a goal vs that pathetic Iceland team) made the pick?? Out of the 3 Brazil-based players, I feel that Marcos, Polga, and Kaka will make the cut. So that means...NO ROMARIO!!! Maybe Romario will get his "Christmas present" in Brazil's December friendly!!

.
I honestly missed that they left Rivaldo off the selection. :D
This is an older selection of players. I'm honestly a bit surprised at that. Then again I don't really believe that this is a "preparation" match by any means for Brazil, which honestly concerns me only because I'm hoping they won't wait until qualifying to do that... ala last year.

Rivaldo asked to be left out,Flavio hasn't played for Real in 6 months, well until wednesday,Amoroso just came back from 2 month long injury.
I doubt Kaka,Diego and the other boys will be in the list,Brazilian championship is in very important stage right now.Coaches wont let their players out.
We might see Polga and Kleberson since their teams are out.
It was a pleasure to Huninho Pernumbucano name.

I think Romario deserves better than some meaningless friendly in Korea,His come back would be in Maracana.

No more Serginho...........Lateral-esquerdo Serginho solicita desconvocação da Seleção Brasileira

How old is Serginho? This seems strange, I thought he was under 30...
I think this is a great team and I see a 4-4-2 very similar to the 3-5-2 we had in the Cup in terms of personnel... hopefully Ronaldinho gets to play in the midfield, not up front:
Marcos; Cafu, Edmilson, Lucio, Roberto Carlos; Emerson, Kleberson, Zé Roberto, Ronaldinho; Ronaldo, Amoroso
that would be my pick to start assuming Marocs and Kleberson are called up.
Personally I prefer Scolari's 3-5-2

Luizao is out with injury so he won't be there either!! I'm surprised about Serginho though, Marcos will be picked along with Kaka, Kleberson, Polga and maybe Diego for a suprise!!

How can Diego be picked with Santos in the last eight of the Brasileiro? He may have to wait until the December amistoso.

Well if that's the case then Kaka, Kleberson, Ricardinho and Vampeta can't be picked either!! Well Sao, who do you think besides Marcos who'll be picked??
omajac
10 Nov 2002, 11:29 AM
Another person who I felt should've been picked instead of Franca...ADRIANO!!! I do feel that in the near future with Ronaldo's "creeky" knees being unstable Adriano will be the new no.9!!

5 players not playing for top 8 Brasileirao teams!!

Well that means that there's a chance that Baixinho may creep his way on the squad!!

A 'fact' I predicted! I will now search to see if Zagalo picked 5 today.
