Nellie will lead his team out against Australia in London (http://soccernet.espn.go.com/headlinenews?id=325982&cc=5901).

Well, I guess that's one way to appease the EPL teams about taking Aussies and Kiwis around the world.

Instead of taking players to the game, they'll take the game to the players.

They've been doing this for about a year now, and it makes sense.

Makes sense for the players to not have to travel, but let's not forget, these games are chances for local federations to make big money to fund other efforts. How many people in London will go to watch a friendly of Australia versus New Zealand? Do TV rights alone make this cost effective?
Very off topic I know, but it's curious.

Very off topic I know, but it's curious.Think of the travel costs involved shipping all those players down under. Also, this may be the only way many of them would play in a friendly. How many people would show up for a friendly between youth sides or, even, how many would show up for the senior men teams for a friendly? It's an economically interesting situation, because the benefits to the Anzac federations are more than monetary -- their players need the practice desperately, and there is no competition for them in the Pacific unless they go to Asia -- still a long haul.

It's a shame for the fans in either New Zealand or Australia, wherever the match would have been held otherwise.

I was in Australia last week, and the papers were reporting the proposal by the players for Aus to play their home leg of the home-and-home WCQ against Solomon Islands in England. The head of the Aus FA said they wouldn't do it for various reasons, mostly related to the $ they'd make. Of course a WCQ is different than a friendly, but I think it's really interesting they would consider it.
