Nanbawan, you didnt say anything about Utaka's exit.
What to say ? It's always painful to realize that your best players prefer to join Portsmouth rather than stay even if you play the UEFA. Says a lot about the current lack of attraction of the French championship...
Now, it's clear that the most important is to set foot on a Premiership club - which pays good money regardless of their ranking - and hope that you can make an impression there. Though, Portsmouth is the closest you can get from the French shores, maybe it's a way to keep in touch. ;)
Same can be said about Melchiot joining Wigan. Snif. Too bad really. The thing is it would certainly be less painful if they had joined Liverpool or ManU...
Just have to hope that we can get the benefit of our current group before being raped again.

Thanks for the info. Didn't see that one coming. Well, that's the way to recruit efficiently for Rennes anyway ; gambling on future talents.

I still think OM really could have used him. They didnt want to spend the money but Rennes did. Shows you what a joke OM is.

Great game by Thomert (2 goals). I think he was a steal for you guys. I remember at Lens he would drive teams crazy with his runs.

The thread was dead (where's Nabanwan, BTW ? Probably hiding his shame). Just reviving it to say that Strasbourg hammered Rennes yesterday.
9' : Alvaro.
66' : Renteria.
87' : Alvaro.

Is it only me or is Strasbourg a feast or famine team? Here are some scorelines this year.
Strasbourg 3-0 Auxerre
Toulouse 1-3 Strasbourg
Lille 0-3 Strasbourg
Monaco 3-0 Strasbourg
Lyon 5-0 Strasbourg
Strasbourg 3-0 Rennes
Yeah, that's only 6 games out of 17, but those scorelines are big. Especially as 4 of them are in the previous 6 matchdays.
Since this is the Rennes thread, I wonder how safe Dréossi's job is.

French Ligue 1 side Rennes have confirmed the signing of American defender Carlos Bocanegra from Fulham
he US defender has put pen to paper on a three year contract following his release by the London side at the end of last season. Bocanegra has admitted that he is already looking forward to the new challenge at Rennes as a new chapter in his career in Europe begins.
"I was in a hurry to join Rennes," Bocanegra told the club's official website. "After five years with Fulham, I wanted to play in another European league other than England. I appreciate the French championship.
"It's a very high level and well reputed championship. The club also forms good players."

Interesting move. I can't think of many Americans who have played in Ligue 1.
Does Carlos speak any French?

More than one would think, as Onyewu did, as did that Frenchman-turned-American David Régis. Quentin Westberg was a former backup keeper at Troyes, who were a L1 team a couple of seasons back. I believe Greg Vanney was at Bastia once, too.

apparently andrew jabobsen is no longer at lorient. he only made it to the bench once last year, and he doesn't appear on the roster on the fcl site. http://www.fclweb.fr/equipe/groupe-pro/

I really love Rennes's stadium and would love to attend a match there, but as far as the team goes I really dont care too much about them American or no American on the team. Hope Bocanegra does well though.

Sylvain Wiltord a reçu une grosse proposition d'un club de la ligue américaine, vraisemblablement les Red Bulls de New York. Ecarté à Rennes, l'international réfléchit.
France Football.
Wiltord to MLS ?

I'm back !
In the wake of Rennes' recent good results and obviously tonight's win against PSG, I post links towards Rennes' local TV for those of you who might be interested.
They obviously talk about the Stade Rennais. Of course, it's all in French but you might be able to catch some Boca images and stuff like what happens in the locker room during and after the game. They are broadcast several times. The interesting thing thing is that they're usually rerun at night (French time)
For the rest, well, it's a local channel...There is an international music (Rock, Pop, Electro) festival at the beginning of December though.

i have to amet thatr rennes are maybe the hardest working team in ligue 1 as of now , and maybe the hardest team to beat the season am still waiting for Nice vs Grenoble because of the rain out ,am pretty sure Nice would beat grenoble and Nice would have take the points and went to second place at this time,so over all

Sigh. I was at the match last night. Rennes were okay, PSG were poor. With no disrespect to Rennes, I think it's pretty clear that the quality of Ligue 1 is very poor if they are the second best team in the country.

being in 2nd right now doesn't make them second best team in the league... and i don't mean because nice has a match in hand.
quality in the absolute is difficult to gauge, but if one of the results of having a "very poor" league is more than 4 clubs with a shot at a prize i'll live with it.

'More than 4 clubs with a shot at winning a prize'??? Isn't this the league currently easily topped by 7 times running champions cantering to an 8th title?
