I think it will probably be someone from abroad. But for the moment Dreossi is busy to keep our best players, then the right back search is maybe a bit cold atm. Hopefully Utaka will stay. Like Briand if he got a brain....

En faisant prolonger quatre joueurs cadres de son effectif, parmi lesquels le capitaine Etienne Didot, le Stade Rennais mise une fois de plus sur la stabilité dans l’attente de nouveaux renforts.


Les supporters rennais commençaient à s’impatienter. A force d’attendre, certains fidèles du stade de la Route de Lorient devenaient même pessimistes sur l’avenir d’Etienne Didot au Stade Rennais. Le Paimpolais, dont le contrat arrivait à échéance à la fin de saison 2007-08, a donc franchi le pas après plus d’un mois de réflexion. Auteur d’une fin de saison tonitruante, Etienne Didot suscitait les convoitises de quelques clubs de Ligue 1 (PSG, Bordeaux). Cependant, son attachement au club et les échéances européennes ont certainement pesé dans la balance au moment de parapher sa prolongation de contrat de deux ans. « Je me suis posé une question simple : Ai-je envie de partir ? La réponse était non. Je suis attaché à la Bretagne, à la ville, aux supporters. Les infrastructures sont bonnes, le public est nombreux dans le stade. C’est un public que j’aime et c’est vrai que cela a joué dans mon choix. »

Le choix de « Little big man » de prolonger jusqu’en 2010 a été suivi par de nombreux coéquipiers. Ainsi, Jimmy Briand, convoqué en équipe de France (sans jouer) pour les matchs contre l’Ukraine et la Géorgie, a emboîté le pas de son capitaine en prolongeant son contrat d’une saison supplémentaire jusqu’en 2010. Malgré quelques sollicitations de clubs de Ligue 1, le natif de Vitry-sur-Seine a décidé de rester s’aguerrir du côté de la Piverdière. Malgré une trêve de six mois à Monaco, Olivier Sorlin s’affirme, lui, de plus en plus comme un cadre de l’effectif Rouge et Noir. En prolongeant son contrat jusqu’en 2010 également, le Stéphanois devient un homme de base et d’expérience comme le souhaite Pierre Dréossi pour encadrer ses jeunes troupes. « Jouer dans l’équipe qui a terminé quatrième du championnat, c’est valorisant, justifiait Olivier Sorlin. Il n’y a pas beaucoup de possibilités de trouver mieux en France. Je me sens bien à Rennes où j’ai de nombreux repères. Il y a aussi une très bonne ambiance dans le vestiaire. »

Son rôle de taulier prendra toute son importance avec la prolongation de Sylvain Marveaux jusqu’en 2011 et les premiers contrats pro du défenseur Guillaume Borne, pour trois ans, et de Kévin Bru pour les quatre prochaines années (2011). Echaudé par l’épisode Melchiot, Pierre Dréossi doit être soulagé d’avoir convaincu ses joueurs de continuer l’aventure en Bretagne en dépit des convoitises. De plus, il peut également se satisfaire de n’avoir aucun de ses joueurs en fin de contrat durant la prochaine saison comme il le souhaitait. Après avoir bouclé son chantier prioritaire des prolongations, le manager rennais doit maintenant s’atteler à finaliser de nouvelles arrivées en vue des nombreuses échéances de la saison prochaine. Les supporters devront une nouvelle fois s’armer de patience, comme cela fut le cas pour les prolongations de contrat. Dréossi aime prendre son temps et pour le moment, cela lui réussit plutôt bien.
