No European football for Dortmund or Rennes either so maybe if you guys got in the UEFA Cup he might have stayed maybe since his moved to Dortmund isnt signed, sealed and dilvered yet.

Anyway, let see the 'good' side, it's a golden opportunity to fire Laszlo otherwise we would have had to keep him and be humiliated in UEFA...Now, getting rid of him is fine, finding someone that could bring us a lil bit higher is of course better.
Get rid of Bölöni ? Strange idea. Why ? We were involved in the european spot race for the second time in a row, which has not happened before. Stability it is what we need. We have failed this year, but we can't say we were not lucky in the end of the previous season.
This year, despite an execrable start, a load of injuries all along the season and our inexperience in European competitions. We have earned more points than the previous season. Despite all the problems we had, i still can think we have improved this year.
Now, for sure, we will face some problems to keeps our players. It might be a year of transition, but i don't see any reasons to fire Bölöni. He will probably coach till the end of his contract.

I don't see us pony up the money needed to convince Stade Rennes. Talks are that they still want 7+ Mio Euro and BVB is not willing to spend that much money.
IMHO his will to join Dortmund is noth worth that much. If Rennes do not agree BVB's terms or if another club from a better league (i.e. England) enters the ring, we are out of the game. SImple as that.
Talking about why he wants to join Borussia Dortmund? IMHO:
- higher salary
- bigger club (I know that sounds weird in a Rennes thread, still easy to understand)
- 70.000 at every home match
- more interesting league in terms of recognition (not in terms of technique&tactics level)
- more exposure in Switzerland

Btw, and that sounds really insane, Borussia Dortmund have very good chances to be nominated as 1. Bundesliga's fairest team. Then after the season UEFA will do a lottery and grant IIRC 3 places to a total of 12 teams (one from each country). That way Mainz won a place last season and played UEFA Cup this season.

He shouldnt have to cost that much because he had a poor season and was injured.

Dont see why he cant go to another German team.

I think everyone agrees that Dortmund is a much bigger club than Rennes if we are talking about size of city, crowd support, past success, etc. If Dortmund cant pay the transfer fee then how could his salary there be that much higher than it is now
- 70.000 at every home match
Every player would want that but players dont pick clubs because of how many fans are in the stands.

I dont see how the German league gets much more recognition than France. Maybe slightly more but not much much more.
- more exposure in Switzerland
I think everyone in Switzerland knows who he is already. If he is from the German speaking part of Switzerland it makes sense for him to play in Germany anyway.

I dont understand why he hasnt been linked with other German teams who can pay him more than Dortmund. I dont see why Hamburg, Bremen, Shalke, Leverkusen, or Hertha wouldnt want to take a shot at him.

Frei justified his decision by saying that Dortmund remain mythical to Swiss players in the way that PSG remain to French players.
He is obviously living in the past.

Rennes are a good club to play for. They spend more money than some French clubs who are supposedly bigger than them. They have a great new stadium that is usually full. They have an owner who is ambitious and wants to win. Their biggest rival, FC Nantes, have more fans that they do and more past success but Nantes are in debt trouble and arent as ambitous as Rennes are in terms of spending money on players in order to win.

Because we try to sign only Bosman transfer players (Steven Pienaar of Ajax) or pay low transfer fees. In return you have to offer higher salaries. As Rosicky and Koller will leave and some players signed new contracts with lower wages, we should be able to spend some money on new salaries.
Every player would want that but players dont pick clubs because of how many fans are in the stands.
True, a weak argument. Players are whores...and I don't mean that offending. They go where they get the most Euros or can play top-class football.

Bremen have three top class strikers in Klose, Klasnic and Valdez. Schlacke have signed Turkish striker Halil Altintop. Leverkusen might be interested but they have other options (already signed Kießling of Nuremberg). Hertha don't have the transfer kitty to pay Frei and they just turned Pantelic's loan contract into a permanent one. Then there is still Hamburg who IMHO could jump into the ring. Just like they "stole" us Nigel de Jong of Ajax, I have the bad feeling that they could after him. They probably play CL and can also spend some dimes.

Actually, in my post I did also imply that we shouldn't get rid of him just for the sake of it. It's just if there are available managers more likely to take us a notch higher, it should be considred an option. And from what I've heard, Bölöni's temper is p*ssing some people off. But yeah, I'd be exagerating if I were saying that he's made a poor job on the whole.

i gotta say "chapeau" to Renne for their season this year, although it didnt result in European football next year, it still was a fantastic season, the team was very fun to watch because rarely would you see a 0-0 result in their games.

Methinks Stade Rennais grew up this year. The only thing is that it would be the best thing to keep most of our talents, but regarding Gourcuff"s last statements, there's but no chance that he'll be rennais for next season ...

News in Germany are that Rennes is willing to lower their initial demands for Alexander Frei.

As Rosicky to Arsenal seems like a done deal, we have the transfer kitty to land new signings. Arsenal pay us 10 Mio Euro and we can spend 100% of this money.
We are after Frei and Valdez of Bremen, two strikers. Plus we still look for another creative midfielder besides Steven Pienaar who signed from Ajax on a free transfer already.
