The ride began April 9, 1976. Scott worked the first sporting event at the Kingdome when Pele played in an exhibition soccer game in front of a sold-out crowd.
...At one point a kid wanted an autograph, and the kid's parent, trying to get Scott's attention, shouted: "Hey Bill, Bill the Beerman!" An icon was born.
The Mariners, Seahawks, Sounders and Sonics all played in the Kingdome at one time, giving Bill the Beerman year-round exposure. If you were a sports fan, you knew him, and he felt as if he knew you.
"I give (fans) permission to do what they want to do," the Beerman said. "I say it's OK to cheer, and it's better if we cheer altogether. It's as simple as that."
Here's to ya, Bill. Beat this thing!
