Is there a program for the Mac that consolidates multiple IM programs? Basically, I don't want to have to use iChat, Messenger, and Yahoo IM programs, but my ridiculous friends and family refuse to all agree on one program. I want to be able simply to use one prgram that will have all three lists.

I doubt such a beast exists, but if it does, I imagine someone here knows of it.

Much thanks.

Ah-ha. Such a beast is called "Fire". Anyone with experience of it? I really want to keep my new baby here so fresh and so clean clean, thus I am cautious about installing software.

Might also want to look into a piece of software called "Trillian", which you can download for free from Download.com.

Neat little program, although it takes forever to start up, and is a bit of a memory hog.

Thanks, but I'm using a Mac and Trillian is for PC only.

My worry about Fire (which seems to be the Trillian Mac equivalent) is that it is also a CPU and mem hog.

Adium X (http://www.adiumx.com/)

Adium supports AIM, ICQ, MSN, Yahoo!, Rendezvous, Yahoo! Japan, Gadu-Gadu, Jabber, Napster, Lotus Sametime (via the Meanwhile plugin, and Novell GroupWise.

I use Adium and I love it, great program. It's also very customizable so you can see your list right on your desktop. I've attached a screenshot, from a while back, to show you what I mean. You can see the little AIM guy to the right of the persons name (a feature that allows you to put their name or whatever you want instead of just seeing their actual sn) and that means it's a AIM sn, the little blue globe means it's a persons .Mac name. I don't have people from msn or the other services on there.

I used to use Fire - it was good enough. I switched to iChat/AIM full time so I haven't used it in a couple of years though.

I just installed adium. it is super fast, although I will ditch it if I ever can convince my f&f to switch to AIM/iChat.

Thanks, Dante.

Segroves. Heh.

What list skin thingy is that, Dante?

Dante

Honestly, I forgot the name of the skin. I'll look it up and let you know when I get home. I adjusted the skin so the back is almost transparent, that's the beauty of Adium you can adjust practically everything.

As for Segroves... heh.... he's a good guy and can be a riot chatting with.

Yeah, you adjust it in the Color Theme section, click the edit button below it to get it done.

I like this. Managing the address book is a bit unwieldy, but the dock alerts are awesome (basically caller ID for IM) and I like the default sound effects. I'm trying to decide whether to switch full time from iChat.

Trust me, you'll never go back to iChat. I haven't used it since I converted to Adium. I just love the fact that I can keep my buddy list on the desktop and it blends in perfectly.
