Copied this from one of my posts in the previous Buffy thread. Consider it a starting point...a primer.

speaking of the movie....let's talk about it.

Did you know, the original plan was supposed to be what you hear in Episode 1 of season 1. She was supposed to burn down the gym and well, Pike (Luke Perry) was supposed to go down in flames cuz she thought he got vamped. Well, everyone knows that you can't have Luke Perry dying in a movie in the early 90s....box office disaster (not that his living in the end help matters, I think more would've pay to see him fry), so they made Joss rewrite the ending (bummer they didn't even film the original ending for later use. IE: video/dvd). So if you watch the movie, pretend this in the ending if you want to go straight to the series.....Buffy burns down the gym and gets expelled from Hemery in L.A. (did you notice that they have the same mascot and the same gold in their colors as Sunnydale High?). Also, the vamps don't go "poofie" like they do in the series (fyi....that effect supposedly costs $10k a pop)

Discuss the movie.....coming next: Welcome to the Hellmouth. Breaking out my dvds and watchers guides.

So some questions:
1. Would you have rather seen Joss' original ending?
2. Do you think Xander is Pike-like?
3. what do you think of the original Buffy (Kristy Swanson) posing in the Nov. Playboy?

TONIGHT'S EP:

1. I think we're onto something with the Slayers-in-training being off'd. Do you think The Watcher's Council has something to do with this?
2. Do you think this "big" evil is still The First Evil from season 3 instead?
3. Is it just me or is that Nancy chick tossing a huge old-school Cordelia vibe with her look....not attitude?
4. What's your take on the Spike with a soul thing? I think, unlike Angel, it's going to make him go bonkers until he offs himself or is used as a pawn thinking it will bring him redemption.

I watch the series but have never seen the movie. I will play..

1. Yeah, slayers in training are being off'd. I think it is the watcher's council that is doing it. But I am not sure. Another question though, is they seem to be focusing on the knife all the time when they kill the slayers in training. Is it the same knife, buffy used to kill Faith. In other words, they could be meaning to imply that Faith is killing all the slayers in training.

2. Big evil is the first evil thing.
3. Nancy had the whole Cordelia thing going. But I think that Xander and Ania(sp?) are going to get back together. Nancy, I think might flake out on the whole this is your life it is way to crazy for me thing. I think it might happen when Xander saves Ania from the whole vengence demon boss.
4. It made Angel go bonkers for a long time, if I recall. Then he was visited by some demon and said you can be bonkers or you can go help her. Angel chose to help her.
Spike is clearly bonkers. That is obvious. The question is whether he gets visited by the demon again, or maybe Buffy's spark reignites, or something that takes him out of it. I think there is a very good chance that Spike helps the hellmouth without knowing.

New question? Was there a shapeshifter in the 1st episode or was Spike just torturing himself. That being said, if there was no shapeshifter, how did Spike know about some of the earlier characters, that Spike wasn't really around for. If it was a shapeshifter, I think Spike will get toyed with by the first evil.

To my knowledge...Faith is still in the slammer in L.A. and on the path to good. I'll have to rewatch the tapes and see if the knives are similar. I'm thinking Watcher's Council is upset that both Faith and Buffy have the power over them, neither one of them play by the rules and remember, it's all about power

2. Big evil is the first evil thing.

Oh most definitely.....from beneath, it devours you.
Satan and the underworld....I think Joss has a brillant scheme cooking. Think the First Slayer ties into this with the "your power is rooted in darkness"? Could Buffy actually go bad?

3. Nancy had the whole Cordelia thing going. But I think that Xander and Ania(sp?) are going to get back together. Nancy, I think might flake out on the whole this is your life it is way to crazy for me thing. I think it might happen when Xander saves Ania from the whole vengence demon boss.

Anya with a y (I'll help ya there). I'm still thinking Buffy and Xander are going to hook it up. The theme for this season is back to the beginning....if you go back to the true beginning....Xander being Pike-like could come into play. Xander is supposed to play a factor this season. so who knows.

I've already read where it's not going to be a repeat of Angel/Angelus. Maybe he'll go the other route and go insane.

That's definitely a shapeshifter. The only character that appeared before Spike was The Master in season 1 and considering that Darla was working for The Master....I'm sure Spike and Dru were somewhere in that game in the past. I'm sure someone as legendary as The Master was known by most vampires. Of course, Spike said he had a "ear to the ground" there's something to think about.

Allright to Sum.....

1. The First Evil is the big enemy of the season and probably has Spike in his corner who will flip out with this whole soul thing. It shapeshifts.

2. The council is slaying the slayers in training as they want the power. So they go off and kill all the slayers in training sans one. Then they go off and kill Buffy and Faith and they have the power again. Isn't Giles back in with the watchers in England?

3. Buffy will turn evil - I think your right about this one. Hence the shapeshift to Buffy at the end. Throw in the whole Buffy was partially tormented when she was being visited in her dreams by the first slayer and you have some cause for the chaos.

4. Xander - I still don't think he and Buffy will get together. The whole thing works well with Xander always wanting her thing. If we are revisiting old themes, what about Xander and Willow?

Good discussion, can't wait till next week.

When is the Angel premiere? I caught the show this weekend and it was a rerun. It seems like it is another week away?

Angel is on Sundays at 9 on WB starting this Sunday. After Charmed, same time as Alias. I'll make an Angel thread before Sunday....they're seperate shows now (no crossover rule with WB), so they should have seperate threads.

Joss isn't going to make Willow hetero again. He's been applauded for having a strong lesbian character in his show. Watch season 1...the clues. Watch the end of last season...more clues...points to B/X.

They can kill Buffy all they want, the slayer lineage runs through Faith. Hence why no new slayer when Buffy died at the end of season 5.

Giles doesn't appear to be with the Watchers, so much as the coven that was helping Willow. Of course, we won't know what's going on now that she's left there.

First question of the night ... What WAS that horrible fashion nightmare that Buffy was wearing after they came home from the airport?

2. Do the post-9/11 airport rules not apply to Sunnydale? How could they meet her at the gate?

3. Looks like Giles definitely is back with the Watchers. Council meeting all day?!??! hmmm, will this play into future eps?

4. Good thing I read the wildfeed summary of this ep or I'd be hella lost right now.

5. Anyone else wanna buy an XBox just so they can get the Buffy game?

6. Spike called Xander "her boy" referring to Buffy...think he knows something we don't? is he predicting the future? is it just insane rambling?

I'm just loving insane Spike. And Dawn. Joss continues to kick my ass with character development. Paralyzed Dawn was probably one of the funnier moments I can recall in the entire series, right up there with Anya as a bunny at Halloween.

No dead slayers-in-training this week, but the Watchers Council had an offsite get-together. My hunch is that after they're all hunted down, whoever is responsible will go after Faith. The Slayer will have to jump the bloodline somehow, which brings us to Dawn and SMG's potential absence from the show next season.

Oh, and because I just came from the "best lyrics" thread, I have to reiterate that possibly my second favorite Spike moment, after his chat with Joyce, was last year's season finale, when he's being tested. "Here we are now. Entertain us."

Later,

My prediction is that Faith gets let out of jail/escapes when she appears in 3 Angel eps in Feb. and it sets it up for her to be in the last 5 eps of Buffy. You never know....they could turn the puppy over to her.

Somehow she merges with Buffy or they switch bodies like before...something that would put the Buffy personality inside the Faith body.
I think Joss is setting it up either Faith or Dawn as possible season 8 slayers if the rest of the cast wants to go on with the show and SMG doesn't.

Hey COZ...if you happen to swing by my livejournal friends list...you should pop an email or message to chi2cali. She's a Fire fan who likes Buffy.

I'm going to try to get her to venture to BS and post in my Buffy/Angel threads.

Agreed.. I think the paralyzed Dawn was hilarious but for my money, the funniest moment ever on BTVS was the slide show in "Hush".. The best 2 minutes in BTVS history.. Xander's booby reference, Buffy's jaggof motion and the drop dead hilarious illustrations of Giles... Great stuff..

Anybody else think that Alyson Hannigan is looking better and better as the years go by? Her and Buffy are going in opposite directions.. What happened to the Buffy in Season 5 that was so damn hot?

I defy anyone to put up a list of hotties like this that can be rivaled on television:

Buffy - SMG
Dawn - Michelle Trachtenberg
Willow - Alyson Hannigan
Cordelia - Charisma Carpenter
Jenny Calender - Robia LaMorte
Amy - Elizabeth Anne Allen
Faith - Eliza Dushku
Glory - Clare Kramer

I'm sure I'm leaving out a few others but pound for pound BTVS dusts the other competition, no pun intended....

That scene in Hush was the BEST!!! That episode was the best! I liked it so much (and this sounds silly), that I bought an eyeshadow from MAC called "hush"

Charisma...former Chargers cheerleader
Robia...former Prince dancer (she was Diamond of Diamond and Pearl, she's even on the CD cover)
You forgot Amber Benson who I thought was stunning in Stuff about a year ago.

The guys aren't bad either even Giles...but some got sent to Angel...

Xander...Nicholas Brendan (was up for Spiderman at one point)
Spike...James Marsters (gets hotter with each season)
Angel...David Boreanaz (this guy took his shirt off in front of me when I filmed Angel and he apologized to me for it!?!? is he crazy?!!?)
Giles...Anthony Stewart Head (he used to be the Tasters Choice coffee guy!)
Wesley....Alexis Denisof (who dates Alyson Hannigan btw)

As a whole, I think I would take the current Angel guys over the current Buffy guys.

"She'll tell you... Someday she'll tell you".......

These are the words spoken to Spike by the ill-fated soothsayer.. I think this will snap Spike out of his funk.. This also possibly sets up a really emotional ending to the season if SMG does not renew her contract.. I can see it now, Buffy tells his she really loves him and then dies, again.....

Overall a very enjoyable episode with yet again a lot of humour interspersed throughout the episode..

Dawn talking to Buffy about her overbearing older sister was funny as was the part about the geek hitting on Buffy as well.. Great approach by the geeky kid...

Looks like Anya finally gets hers next week... Or does she??

Anyone get the small reference to the season 2 ep when the college dudes tried to sacrifice Buffy and Cordy to a demon?

Excellent episode tonight.. One of the better ones in some time..

I loved the Olaf the Troll bit at the beginning (and Anya kissing the bunny)..

Lots of good nuggets in this one..

Scary Willow made a very brief but frightening appearance tonight.. Methinks the scary one will be back again this season...

I'm kinda glad that other vengance demon bought the farm, she was quite annoying..

Also of note is another reference to the Big Evil that awaits Buffy and the Scooby's.. This of course will kill off Anya once and for all..

And finally, Dawn gets little to no air time once again.. Although she is getting some very funny lines and moments this season, she has hardly been a factor.. But of course, all this is quite well known to Joss who must have grander plans for Dawn (unfortunatey I think we all know what that means - SMG leaving the show at seasons end - a move I am not happy with if it comes to fruition)..

I loved it. The troll flashbacks, the bunny's, the buffy the musical flashback, the humor, the allusion to the finale again, the prelude to Ania's actual death.

It ranks in the top 10 for me easy, and might rank in the top 5. The main vengence demon guy was awesome. Yeah I could have killed you, but it was better to kill someone else and inflict pain upon you. Very very nice move by the writers.

The spider death was funny. The whole episode was great.

I really liked this episode. Anya has become my favorite character. I loved the bunny in the beginnig--I wonder what happened to make her dislike them? I was kind of aggravated with Buffy being so willing to kill Anya and making the whole thing about her when Xander called her on it. Yeah she killed Angel--but how many people did he have to kill before she even considered it; the situations weren't really the same. I really don't like Dawn, even though she is becoming less annoying, so I was happy she wasn't really in the episode.

Bad news, maybe kiddies....from E! Online.

CALLING IT QUITS? Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon telling TV Guide Online that the Buffster might hang it up in May. "I'm beginning to suspect that it may be [Buffy's] last season," Whedon said. "Nothing's official, but. . .the way people are talking, there's a finality to it." Ratings for this season are off 16 percent compared to this time last year.

I think seven years is pretty good for a TV show. And I'd much rather have the show end (with enough time for the producers to come up with a suitable ending) with Buffy still around, than to come back next year to "Dawn the Vampire Slayer" or "Faith the Vampire Slayer" as has been rumored -- that just wouldn't be the same. Like when they temporary replaced Bo and Luke with their "cousins" on Dukes of Hazzard.
