Anybody know who Argentina will play in the Fiesta Cup at Giants Stadium in New York. Last June Argentina beat Peru. The winner was invited back to defend this year. I suspect the game will be played in June again. Any clue who they will be playing or precisely the day and time? Thanks.

I have no clue. However, Argentina has to play a WCQ against Brazil on the 7th of June. Shortly after that, they begin the Confederations Cup in Germany. Perhaps as a warm-up they may play someone...but unsure as of yet.

OK you guys are no help. I wrote to the New York City Sports Commission that sponsored last year's "Cup" and of course no answer yet. There is going to be a Metrostars game on 6/29. They play Chicago. That is the closest game date wise to last years. I am still curious who they would play. I would imagine they would want to appeal to a broad NYC latino ethnic. Mexico maybe? Columbia?

Giants Stadium is in East Rutherford, NJ.

The Fiesta Cup is sponsored by the New York City Sports Commission or some such name. Mayor Bloomberg did the half time welcome....Diego Torres lip synced a song...a big New York love fest. A question...during american footbal season.... Do they call them the East Rutherford Giants?

Question...do you think they would just blow it off? Not have it this year....it was pretty cool last year...lots of fun.....

If the Giants called themselves the Philadelphia Giants and played where they do now they'd still be in New Jersey.

Why the NJSEA let that be an NYC love fest last year is beyond me, but they did. The New Jersey Nets and New Jersey Devils also play in the Meadowlands. The NYC/NJ border is the Hudson River, not Route 120.

Do they have it again? Who knows. If they can sell tickets I'd think they would.

That is what they said last year. This was supposed to be an annual deal. The team who wins get to defend the cup the following year. We beat Peru last year...sooooooooo....the assumption is we play somebody this year. Who and when is the question. I think they had a decent turnout last year. I am not good at estimating crowds but 2/3 of the lower seats were full. I really enjoyed it and hope they do it again. I guess time will tell. I can not find out from anyone...the MetroStars, New York City Government, the Meadowlands...you would think somebody has to know...you cannot schedule that on the spur of the moment...hey guys...fly your team over and play an exhibition.... keep your fingers crossed and your ears open....

Well someone from the NY city Sports commission called in regards to my email about the Fiesta Cup. She told me basically nothing. She said they are trying to arrange the game...though it is possible she was just blowing smoke...she did not sound very enthusiastic. I asked her..well they are going to play right? The Mayor said this was an annual thing right? He said the winner would be invited back to defend the cup in 2005 right? I got the impression nobody there thought about it until I sent my email. She said to call in a month or to keep checking their website for info. I would suggest that anyone interested in seeing Argentina defend the cup write to the commission asking when the game will be held.

There is a place somewhere in the website for emailing them.
