Anyone hear any rumors or have any info regarding who will be the second team invited to the Gold Cup?

My guess is that CONCACAF would like to get Brazil, but probably won't.

Somebody mentioned a rumor about England, which would be really cool but unlikely. Since it appears the guest team will be based in Miami, Colombia's the favorite.

But Brazil was the guest last time around.

But Brazil was the guest last time around.

They were guests in '96, '98 and '03. South Africa came out of no where...hopefully team #2 will be a pleasant new surprise.

I'd expect a lesser CONMEBOL team, Peru or Venezuela, maybe Colombia. I'd love it if they invited Chile, unfortunately I don't think there are a ton of Chilean immigrants in the US, God knows I can probably count all the ones in Michigan on two hands.

Remind me... who is the first guest team?

Don't tell me it's Korea, again.

South Africa is the other guest team.

While Brazil has been a guest before, I don't think they'd want to participate this time. They have two world cup qualifiers in early June, and then have the Confederations Cup in mid-June. I think Brazil sent what was essentially its Olympic (U-23) team to the last Gold Cup. But with no Olympics to prepare for, Brazil doesn't have much of a need to send its B team to Gold Cup.

Colombia is fighting for the last spot(s) in South American World Cup qualifying. Perhaps they'd want some time to bring their team together over the summer. Although I don't know if playing Jamaica and Canada is the best way to prepare for CONMEBOL qualifying.

CONCACAF next week will announce the final groups for the 2005 Gold Cup and the full schedule.

From the Houston Cronicle. So we should know pretty soon. I still think Colombia's the favorite, although the fact that they're playing Mexico and the USA now make me uncertain.

So the teams are...

The United States
Mexico
Canada

Costa Rica
Honduras
Guatemala
Panama

Jamaica
Cuba

South Africa
Colombia

Correct?
Not a bad little tournament-- potentially six World Cup squads.

Just curious if theres a link that would state this or you have it on good word? I don't doubt that Colombia is the likely team, I'd just like to see if its written somewhere.
