I agree. None of the two is clearly favorized against the other one imo... itll be a close call, but i think werder is in good condition at the moment, so they should have decend chances to advance...

Both teams are very equal, I'll say WB 1-1 OL in Bremen and OL 2-1 WB in Lyon. (scores are just my opinions and i admit they are biased) Good luck to both squads.

Lyon have more speed and athleticism. Bremen dont seem to be as fast. Can Bremen's midfield guys really match up with Lyon's midfield of Govou, Juninho, Malouda, and Essien. I think Lyon's guys are better. I think Bremen have the edge up front as Klose and Klasnic might be slightly better than what Lyon has there. Lyon go with just 1 striker up front a lot of times. I dont know who has the edge in defense as Im not familair with Bremen's backline. I do think Lyon have the edge in goal as Coupet is France's #2.

Werder coming second to Internazionale is no shame!! Lyon ahead of Man Utd is even better!!!

The groups may have something to do with that.............Lyon didn't even beat Man Utd once. The only reason they won the group was because United sent a weak team to Turkey. Bremen beat Valencia twice, who are the 3rd best team in Spain.

that's right! and in my opinion the defense of lyon is better, but the strikers of werder with klose, klasnic, valdez and zidan are much better than the attack section of lyon. the midfield is already equal. both teams play fast and attraktive football! there will be two very interesting matches!

I think Bremen is able to beat Lyon. Ernst is in a very good shape and if Klose and Klasnic are fit next week they will do their job. And if not, Schaaf will give Valdez a chance and we all know that he dont need much time for a goal ;)

valencia are 3rd place right now
but when bremen played them, it was a while ago, and valencia were much worse then they are now
they were not 3rd place and not even close to being 3rd
but i agree this will be a very interesting clash

I've noticed all the German fans here have said Bremen will advance and all the French have said Lyon will advance.I won't break the chain, i think Bremen will advance after two tight legs, they have been underestimated alot by people, but along with their wins against Valencia, performances like their 5 - 1 drubbing of Anderlecht show what class they possess on a good day. And whoever said they are too slow was wrong, in my opinion, Bremen are a very pacy team.

100% agree! werder is popular in germany for celebrating a similar football like arsenal london in england. and we all know the fast and attractive direct pass fottball!

United sent a weak team to Turkey but Lyon fielded a weak team in their last game vs Sparta Prague. They won that game with their weak team which allowed them to win the group. They could easily have drawn or lost that game since a lot of their regulars didnt play but by winning that game in that situation without rested players and injured players that showed that they are a worthy team. Also Lyon could have beaten MU at home but Nilmar missed an easy chance shot near the end of the game to win it.

Well to answer ur question, Bremens midfiield of 4, consits of three German internationals and one of the outstanding players in Europe last year so I wouldn't say Lyon has the edge there. Like mentioned earlier, Its such a tough call. Lyon is cruising in France and Bremen impressed in the group stages and are in excellent form in the league now. This one will be the underdog for game of the round.

Lyon's midfield group is probably faster and has more endurance. Juninho and Essien were both linked to Arsenal recently. Malouda has been linked with Inter and Govou probably could have left for the EPL by now but he has chosen to stay were he is. They also have Diarra who's an international in Africa. Being a German international right now does not mean your one of the best players in the world like it did 10, 20 years ago.
