So I was on a train going to Baltimore the other day and I was listening to my iPod. It worked on the way down but wouldn't even play on the way up. Basically it only played for 2 hours and the little book it comes with says is has up to 8 hours of battery life. Is there some other kind of battery you can get to make it play longer or should I go back to my walkman for when I'm gonna need music for more than 2 hours?

The battery is the Ipods only weakness .
It runs out so quickly .

My battery lasts a good 5-6 hours
but the only thing wrong with it
is it shows the wrong amounts...like when i charge it, it says empty, then gradually goes up as i listen then stays on about 2 bars for 6 hours

Add this:

It gets even trickier even you travel overseas and re-charge with diff. voltage....with the correct adapters, of course.

It'll display as fully charged when in fact it is probably 50% or less...

Just my own experience....

Yeah, my brother has a 15gig iPod with a sketchy battery. Takes less than 4 hours to go from full to empty. He said they want ~$90 or so to fix it.

you can turn the backlight on by holding the menu button. If you don't know what the equaliser is then it's probably off. You can use it and it changes the volumes and sound of songs. Rock sounds like live rock, pop sounds pop, dance exagerates the beats, acoustic makes it sound like you're in a great room where sound bounces off the wall etc.

You should also let the battery run down to as close to zero as possible before recharging it. Also, make sure you have the latest firmware installed. That tends to resolve most common issues, including battery life.

Is that the window that keeps popping up everytime I download songs from my computer to my iPod?

I don't know - on a Mac, software updates are updated automatically. But yeah, it sounds like iTunes is telling you to download the firmware. You can also check here: http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/
