If you had the choice between your club winning the champions league or your domestic league, for the sake of argument assume your just as likely to win one as the other, which would you rather win? Imo the champions League is the biggest competition in Europe and the one I'd most like to win as a player and a fan, yet it seems to me alot of people would rather see their team win their domestic league, espically fans from Italy, Spain and England. This seems a bit odd to me, though the argument that the league gives a better indication of who the true team is than a knock out tournament is valid, I think a two legged knock out tournament is more fair than something like the FA cup though.

So, which one would you rather win as a player or a fan?

Well, I don't see it happen in the forseeable future but definitly domestic league.

If I was a Bayern fan and won some dozens domectic titles already then my opinion would be different of course.

If I may speak for my team Liverpool, then it's definitely the Champions League that I most desire. The reason being that Liverpool already hold the records of most domestic (18) and European Cups (4) titles. Both records seem unsurpassable, not in the near future anyway. :p

Therefore, ideally it would be better if we could add more European titles to our trophy cabinet. It's a fantastic feeling to be ranked among the European greats such as Real Madrid and AC Milan with 9 titles and 5 titles respectively.

However, realistically both titles seem so far away... :o

JUVENTUS die-hard fan speaking.....

Having lost 3 UCL finals in just the last 10 years and winning 5 scudettos in the same time frame... I simply crave a UCL crown!

PLUS when JUVE wins Serie A not as satisfying, most fo my friends support 'popular teams' Man Utd, Real, Arsenal passionately. IF JUVE wins a UCL i can rub it in a bit and really enjoy, prove my team is the best!

Make no qualms i want them both...

I always want the Scudetto, but right now i really really really want a UCL crown, also because Pavel Nedved, Gianluca Zambrotta, Gianluigi Buffon, Fabio Cannavaro, Lilian Thuram and Mauro Camoranesi deserve to be part of a winning squad like Alessandro Del Piero and Alessio Tacchinardi were.

A far bigger lead for the UCL than I expected to see, I'm happy about that really.

Yeah what a pity Juventus has not won their fair share of honours in the UCL having been the favourites year in year out. This year with acquisitions of Emerson, Cannavaro and Zebina I think we've seen the strongest yet Juventus team. Good luck!!!

CL of course, winning the Dutch league isn't all it's made out to be :D

Winning the national league in NL is only fun when it's been a while... otherwise it's not that special. Which is a shame of course. But it's the way it is.

Neutral = CL

Fan = League

Simple as that. If was playing I would like to win either of course, but the domestic league is special.

Depends where you are on the football trajectory. If, for instance, you're an Arsenal fan, then I think it quite likely that you would have started this season with a slight bias towards the Champions League, given that that is where the sides Wenger has assembled have most conspicuously failed to prove themselves.

Likewise, most United fans I know think they have never really matched the true greats in European competition - the likes of the Real Madrid of the 1950/60's, the Bayern and Ajax sides of the early 1970's, the Liverpool sides of the late 70's and early 80's and of course the awesome Milan sides of the 90's. So they (at least until Arsenal and then Chelsea began to dispose of them domestically) viewed European success as more important.

At Liverpool, by contrast, it is currently the League that most exercises people's passions. Sure, we're all looking forward to the Quarter-finals of the European Cup, because big Euro nights at Anfield are part of the club's essence, but ultimately we know we're unlikely to win it this year and I know that I for one would happily swap Tuesday's game for another 15 points or so in the League.

Given that it's been so long since Chelsea have won the league, even if Mourinho did win the European Cup and failed to win the league, he would, rightly so imho, be looked upon as something of a failure.

Chelsea has the league. It's simply a formality now.

As far as the poll is concerned, I voted for the CL. Nothing tops winning it.

I follow the German and Austrian Bundesliga and the Swiss Super League. I have several favorites in both Bundesliga. I even root for Bayern and Bremen in the CL. If a Austrian or Swisss team made it farther, I'd be following them too.

My bad, I was thinking of the era of Sacchi/Capello when Milan ruled!

Champion's league ofcourse.
In fact what i would love to see at some point is panathinaikos winning the CL... given they are an underdog it will definitely make it even sweeter...

a reasonable man might not see much substance in such a wish... but yet again... who in his right mind ever thought that greece would winn the euro 2004?
