2/13/2005 New feature: Neutral friendlies
It is now possible to challenge teams for a friendly to be played at any arena, not just your own and your opponent's. Choose "Other..." for venue in the challenge forms, then you will be asked to supply the ArenaID. If the arena is in another country than any of the teams it counts as an international friendly. Matches are played at the match time of the arena's league. For instance, two Spanish teams arranging a friendly in France, will have the match played at France's match times.
As before, if you travel abroad, you will pay the travel costs. The owner of the arena has nothing to gain from the match, except the honour of hosting it. As before, income is split between the two teams playing the match.
When you "collect flags", matches played on neutral ground do not count.
This is a great idea nad probably a long overdue move. Now we can have the BS Cup final at a neutral venue. Which is a cool idea, I nominate Rangers Park for the final of the I Got Next Cup this season :D

This is awesome. It also means that we can have all of the March Madness games be single elimination at neutral sites.

Indeed, I know that a lot of people in global aren't liking it, but I think everyone that participates or runs a friendly cup will love this new rule, because it means that finals can be neutral, I really like this.

And it's not like they HAVE to choose this. It's just another option.

My first thought was the same as ur_land. The March Madness can now be on neutral site. :)

The neutral site idea sounds great for these types of a cups.
Consider a moment this scenario. In the upcoming BS cup, two teams from the same region are drawn together. Wouldn't it seem a good idea to pick a neutral site in that region in hopes of increased attendance.
Just thinking out loud....

For whatever reason, derbies don't seem to exist for friendlies -- and even for competitive matches, they don't alter attendance (if they did, series might band together to be in the same region to get higher attendance).

And since whole series moved to be in the same region, the HT's changed it so that there is no increased attendance.

I can understand the possibility of abuse, but don't you think the owner of the arena being used should get a little bit of income?

I think the HTs are keen to minimize any "rich-get-richer" aspects of the game.

Just a thought for that, why? I mean it's not like any of us will fill a stadium for a friendly match.

Actually, attendance used to be increased for derbies. And since whole series moved to be in the same region, the HT's changed it so that there is no increased attendance. One of the HT's said recently in global that this is an HT urban legend, which was why I didn't mention it.

I have great hopes... but I was just wondering - I mean even though there would be little or no point.. we could host friendly cup finals at the biggest stadiums... just for kicks i guess... to mirror the real world... for those of you who don't consider hattrick to be the real world.

I figured, and I see your point of wanting to do that, but I think it'd be better to spread the wealth and let people host who wanted to host, don't limit on size of the arena. Like if someone in the I Got Next Cup wanted to host a March Madness match, but had a small stadium, I don't think it should matter.
