It seems like forever since they've released a new disc.

Anyone know when a new album will hit the store shelves if there is indeed plans for a new album?

Didn't Newstead leave the band in the past year or so? For some odd reason I thought he did.

yeah he left and joined a new band and I think they broke up already too.

The new Metallica record is allegedly close to finished, with Bob Rock producing and playing most bass parts as well.

Newstead's new band, Echobrain, put out a record in March. Info can be found here:

You know some people say that's when Metallica's musical downfall started when they started working with Bob Rock. That was the beginning of their "sellout" phase the black album. That's not my opinion just what the Metallica haters said.

Why is Metallica releasing another album?

It takes Metallica approximately 10 years to record a record.

Acutally I like the boys, but come on, crank it out.

That said, I don't think they'll ever top the Black album so they should just pack it in.

As they've sung almost 20 years ago:
Time, taken its toll on you, the lines that crack your face.

Ya' know I was thinking that too. For the past couple of days I have been listening to "Master...." on my CD player while working offsite. And I was thinking that this damn band has been around a damn long time and that maybe they should just consider retiring. But hearing "Sanitarium" with the headphones cranked makes me realize how much I love this band even though I have not been too keen on the past couple of albums. But then again how can anything compare to "Master...."?

Even though, I haven't seriously listened to them in over 10 years, I still think Ride The Lightning is the best one.

Even though Load and Reload are nowhere near as good as Master of Puppets, ...And Justice for All, or Ride the Lightning they are still better albums than 99.9% of the crap that is put out there by these phony bands nowadays.

Agreed.

Fortunately, since I now have a CD burner on my PC, I was able to create the following 2 "Greatest Hits" CDs:

Disc One (The Early Years)
Seek And Destroy
Am I Evil?
Blitzkrieg
For Whom The Bell Tolls
Fade To Black
Creeping Death
Battery
Master of Puppets
Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
Disposable Heroes

Disc Two (The Later Years)
One
Enter Sandman
Sad But True
The Unforgiven
Nothing Else Matters
Until It Sleeps
Bleeding Me
The Outlaw Torn
Devil's Dance
Turn The Page
Whiskey In The Jar

How can you leave out "Orion" on Disc One and "Wherever I May Roam" on Disc Two? Those are my two favorite Metallica songs.

Space limitations. I might still make an all-instrumental CD with Orion, To Live is To Die, Call of Ktulu, Anaesthesia-Pulling Teeth, that sort of thing...lead into it with Ecstacy of Gold from S&M...

Hey is there a chance you can make me these two CDs? I'll pay for 'em of course.

They're not. Napster drove them into such financial ruin that they had to sell their cars, their houses, and their instruments. No instruments means no album.

Altho I hear Lars Ulrich is considering releasing a solo album of armpit noises.
