Hey Guys and Gals... I know it might be alittle early but the big Arsenal Champions League clash is only 2 weeks away and once again, the game is not being televised in the state..lucky for me I will be in attendance...

My big question for everyone is has Guerrero earned a starting spot in this fixture? So far this season everything that this man has touched has turned to gold. It seams that he finds the net in almost every game he has played in, and when he is not scoring goals.. he is causing havoc in the opponets box. Should Magath give this youngster a chance or should he rely on pizarro.

I want to start off by saying that I am a huge Piza fan but I believe that you have to start Guerrero. Like a baseball manager who gives the ball to his hottest pitcher in a big game... you have to go with Guerrero who has the hottest feet on the team and bring Piza off the bench if needed.

I understand that it is early in the second half but he was directly involved in both goals last weekend.. and yes... the penalty was a questional call.. but in the end it was a foul....as light as a foul could be.

2 weeks off what is your starting lineup?

Mine - Kahn- sagnol, Kovac, Lucio, Liza- Scholl, Ballack, Hargraves, Zi roberto- Guerrero, Makkay

Excuse spelling and position foul ups

my answer is no, Guerrerro should come on in 2nd half or when we need him. Pizzaro contributes to the team more than Guerrerro in terms of teamplay. He covers a lot of ground and help the midfield to hold up the ball.
Also, he's dangerous on long shots and headers which are vital factors in this match.
We might have to struggle in midfield against their great talents in Veira, Edu..., so long shots and aerial play would be the answer.

Those 2 are completely different kind of players, Guerrerro is greater in positioning, more skillful but for the sake of teamplay, Pizzaro is needed, especially he tends to do well at home. :p

Great thread by the way...

... thanks to BMGuy, I was able to watch an entire Bayern Munich match on my computer last night (vs. Leverkusen). If I haven't mentioned it yet BMGuy... I love you man!!! ;)

Anyways, I could not have been more impressed with the play of JPG (Guerrero). He plays with more maturity then expected (unlike Schweinsteiger, whom I rate highly, but is still young and it shows) and created a dozen opportunities for his team to be in scoring position. Unfortunately, I have only seem Pizarro play once, so I can't compare the two. After this game, I would say JPG is definitely a strong consideration to start, but having him enter the game as a "secret" (or not-so-secret) weapon in the second half could be a benefit as well and throw off the oppositions team tactics after the break.

I will say this... I did not expect JPG to play the entire match. This was a true testiment to his ability and a respectful move for the kind of match he was having against Leverkusen on Magath's part. He was my Man of the Match that game for sure. (Kahn must at least be mentioned for his two saves to keep the "clean sheet").

This seems to be working and I would hesitate to change it. I am sure he will in the future be starting a lot, but right now he is our "Ole Gunnar Solskjaer"

Great comparison. Guerrero is a true talent. No need to sling him to the wolves just yet.

No, Magath should bring him in somewhere in the 2nd half, but not start him. Pizarro doesn't score that often, but he definetly is one of the most important players for the team, his work rate is amazing. When Pizarro is fit, he ALWAYS has to be in the starting lineup.

My lineup would be:

-----------------------------Makaay------
----------Pizarro--------------------------

-------Ze Roberto----Frings----------------

-----------------Ballack-----Hargreaves----

Lizarazu-----Lucio-------Kovac-------Sagnol
------------------Kahn---------------------

Scholl should be brought along with Guerrero in the 2nd half.

BMGuy is on fire lately! Dude this is what Magath had to say about the topic (eeriely too familiar to your own words... are you plagerizing again!! ;)

From Bayern.de:
"The third potential contender is Claudio Pizarro, sidelined with flu at the weekend but expected to be fit for Bielefeld. "We missed him," Magath declared, even though late replacement José Paolo Guerrero ended up earning the match-winner laurels. "The team is basically geared to Pizza. He's very different compared to Paolo, he has a different style." Bayern looked a little disjointed going forward before half-time, attributable to the reshuffle in the absence of both Pizarro and Scholl, Magath admitted."

Agree... Agree.... Agree

Your lineup is interesting from a standpoint that this is exactly how I saw them shape up in the Leverkusen game... almost like a modified "box" midfield that forms slightly on a diagonal...

Great eye!!

I gotta say, after Guerrero's performance this season it is tempting to think of his potential and to want to start him, especially in such an important game. That is exactly what we shouldn't do, not at this time anyways. He adapts very quickly to the game for his age but Claudio has the CL experience and, as mentioned before, the workrate that is going to be needed against that Arsenal midfield and defense. Sure JPG is great in the CL, but playing against the GUnners I can see a big difference, particularly against players like Pires, Viera, Cole, Campbell, etc

Guerrero is not ready for a starting spot in a CL game yet. Although I can see him be the number one go-to-guy off the bench.
I see Pizarro starting the rest of the CL tournament, unless of course he gets injured, then we'll see Guerrero start.

I think that Guerrero would be best used in the second half of the match in two situations. If Bayern were leading and need a quicker deadlier striker than Pizzaro to bag a goal on the break, or if Bayern definately need to score and Pizzaro is not playing well.
