To learn about a new streaming software to watch LIVE Champions' League matches free (as well as La Liga, English Premiership, Serie A, Bundesliga), check out this thread:

http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=167180

This is a test-mode only software, and may go away at any time. But take advantage of it while it lasts. Also for this software, more the number of people that are simaltaneously connected for a match, quality of streaming is better. Enjoy!

Try it. Check out the list of matches I watched over the weekend, which I've listed in that thread.

I'm also watching Southampton - Everton and France - Scotland (Rugby Union) simaltaneously at this moment. Not that I care to watch the Southampton match, but just for the heck of it, it's on.

A caveat I would like to add:

I've found out that without a network admin opening up specific ports, the software can't be used across a firewall. Most network admins I know would face an eye of a storm, rather than random requests to open up ports for unknown softwares. If you're at a place of work during Champions' League telecasts (North American workday hours) and have no control over the network configuration at work, the software won't be much use to you.

If you don't fall in that category, enjoy an overdose of Champions' League (assuming the software stays up in the state it is in).

That's is another reason BT is more powerful than CoolStreaming. It's like watching a CL game live or watching a recorded game. In North America, it's very difficult to watch a game live, even if your firewall lets it thru'. Tell your boss or co-workers: I don't want to be bothered in the next two hours because I have a CL game to watch, not to mention actually watching entertainment in the office. Good grief!!!

IS that be better or worse then when you tell your McDonald's boss or co-workers: "I don't want to be bothered in the next four hours because I have to give 'therapy' to individuals on BigSoccer.com"?

Ummm... still smarting over getting shut out in the other thread, huh? you should be grateful that someone save you the embarrassment...

Your personal fixtation on me is really a sign of an unstable individual...

WOW! I'm at work, watching Juve vs. Real Madrid. It's choppy as heck, but still . . . and the Chinese commentary is WAAAAYYY less annoying than Max Bretos.

And Arse-nal are losing! How can this get any better?!

and I was sure I was just gonna end up with a nasty computer virus!

This is an exchange posted by Chandu in the "Six Nation Links" thread in the "Rugby and Aussie Rules" forum. I think Chandu's ignorance on Coolstreaming is best illustrated here.

http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=166355&page=1&pp=15

==================
backheelflick: Weren't you the numbskull that made fun of Rangers00 when he talked about the benefits of Bittorrent(Cool streaming is based on the same technology as bittorrent)?

Chandu:
OK, now. Let's see. Here is the specification for Coolstreaming:

http://www.cs.sfu.ca/~jcliu/Papers/CoolStreaming.pdf

Here is the specification for BitTorrent, and more info:

http://bittorrent.com/protocol.html
http://bittorrent.com/bittorrentecon.pdf

There you go rocket scientist. Look like exactly identical technology, doesn't it? To a numbskull like me, it doesn't. Please explain.

Even my 6 year old son is able to tell that BitTorrent involves binary transfer of data with no streaming involved. Coolstreaming involves, well, lots of streaming. Do you want me to explain streaming protocols to you? Here you go, knock yourself out. Also, please do me a favor of pointing out what BitTorrent has to do with it.

http://all-streaming-media.com/arti...g-protocols.htm

==================

OK, what's the problem with Chandu's comprehension of BT and CS? He thinks they are different because one is a file transfer and one is streaming. What an observation!!! It means he has no clue on the underlying technology behind these two methods: the distribution technology behind the file transfer and streaming, i.e. a distributed P2P method, as opposed to the old P2P method like Kazaa, Morpheus, Grokster, etc.

Don't believe me? Look at this description of Coolstreaming:

http://yuan441.aa.61.fm/read/196034.htm

Don't understand Chinese? this is a translation of this page (via Altavista's TRANSLATE, "simplified Chinese to English"):

"CoolStreaming is one kind of brand-new class media broadcast software, her core technology is similar to present extremely popular BT (BitTorrent), namely at the same time a broadcast pitch point and several broadcasts pitch points exchange (provides or demands) the data, causes the band width to take achieves the maximization, obtains the best broadcast effect.

This software use and BT downloading very similar, when as soon as starts uses, the speed cannot be very quick, after but passes through 10 minute about pitch point data exchange, the broadcast effect can have very greatly has a new look, changes can it be that is often smooth.
...
Principle: P 2 P principle, is same with B T, the on-line person more is quicker."

I'll rather poke my eyeballs with a hot wire than listen to those idiots trying to double to english...and what's worst part is, I speak spanish

I gave Coolstreaming a go this past week at work. Watched CL both days and got to watch three live Premiership matches back to back on Saturday. Being able to watch that stuff made the day go quick.

And it is really nice to watch ESPN Sports Center that talks almost entirely about football. And Sports Center is in english, too.

I could never get the streams to work for me until I tried those sent through Coolstreaming. This program is the bomb.

Thanks to Chandu for tipping us on this one. :)

And where is the Rep then?

Actually, Sunday morning I could have easily watched the Bayer Leverkusen - Stuttgart match over coolstreaming (featuring Landon Donovan), but I passed on it. I had to get ready for the Milano derby and catch Juventus - Siena highlights (all on a conventional TV) and have some semblance of a normal human life.

I'm now reaching a point of football consumption saturation. I'm going to have to adapt a policy of catching only highlights from some of the leagues, especially Bundesliga, or I won't have time to breath. There is just no way to watch so many live matches, even with my 4 computers and the conventional TV. I didn't know I could have access to so much football coverage before. My house has turned into an international sports bar. Help me! :D

What kind of computer and connection makes for a good broadcast on CoolStreaming. I have Verizon DSL at home and I couldn't watch anything on it, barely plays at all, freeze frames of action and jammy audio.

Assume we have some high-speed connection at college too, and it won't work right there either. That I could understand with network congestion or whatever.. but I thought it would work at home w/ DSL.

(Don't really know anything bout computers) It's probably my computer (Dell 256MB 2gig hardrive, like 3-4 yrs old) and laptop (near 2 yrs old, Dell, setup is whatever was top of the line then).

What sort of setup dyou guys have who can actually watch stuff on CoolStreaming?

You could never get the streams to work until what? If you mean you tried other programs like it that didn't work, what are those other programs heh. Cuz CoolStreaming won't stream well for me.
