Well... it isn't like we hadn't figured this would happen eventually. Realistically, after 2006, Bayern could experience a mass exodus, if you will, with current players... Ze Roberto, Ballack, Hargreaves, etc.
If ever there was a time to have found a coach who can develop young talent, then thank God we found Felix Magath!!

Umm...Chelsea may quickly supplant Real as my least favorite team.

My dislike is equal for both ;)
Actually--I would think Ballack would be better served going to the team he was linked with last summer--Barcelona.

You know, its kinda strange. For the most part the rest of the Bundesliga moans about Bayern buying all the best talent, and when you look at the starters, quite a few of them came from other Bundesliga teams(Ballack, Ze, Frings, Pizarro, Lucio)!
Now, to paraphrase, it looks like the shoe could be on the other foot.
I do not doubt that Ballack will go overseas at one point or another, and I'm not so sure about this summer!
I've heard stories about Kuffour, Ze, and Hargreaves leaving recently, and with management looking to trim the squad, it's going to be interesting! :D

Personally I think that Ballack will stay at leats till 2008. In the last 10 years Bayern could keep every player, when they really, really wanted to keep him. Especially when the player was german. Hoeneß said that there will be negotiations in may and june to extend Ballack's contract. I'm quite optimistic. But if he says that he wants to leave, Bayern should try to sell him this summer and buy a good replacement.

Being a Red Sox fan, I must take offense with your statement.... ;)
... seriously though, while you may have a point, the hardest thing to do with talent is not train it, but to manage it. This is the one defining attribute that true championship managers have. It is not easy and brings with it a whole set of problems unrealated to the training pitch.

i love it when the fans of a really super rich club complain about another club buying expensive players. :D

to me, a great manager is the one who can find raw talents and turn them to superstars and sell them for big money, whoever had been the coach of PSV, must be a good one... just one last example, it sold Ruben for relatively cheap but good talent like our Damarcus Beasley.

man, i don't know how to picture a Bayern without Ballack, Owen, scholl, jeremies, kuffour and ze roberto.
Scholl and jeremies certainly will go after 2006, kuffour might leave this year. Ze roberto wants to return home after 2006 'cause he wants his children educated in his home country.
I reckon Owen's fate will be decided based on how ballack reacts. If he goes, then owen will go as well.
With the players left in our midfield, we don't have enough quality to compete even in Bundesliga. Schweisteiger is way too inconsistent, :( , so as Deisler.
Petrov, Fernando Torres are 2 names that i like best at the moment :D to replace Scholl and ze roberto, they will bring on a new wave to the team. So if we can manage to keep Ballack and Owen, we'll be hard to stop.

It won't happen, this is just Chelsea on crack speaking again. They wan't everyone after they breathed in a bit of that mighty Euro. I agree that he'll go abroad eventually but definetley not to Chelsea, by the time Ballacks contract expires Chelsea will have plenty of new players, they will forget about Ballack completely. Plus, I wouldn't want a Pig like Mourinho coaching such a quality player.

If this is the case then the majority of the managers in Brasil and Argentina are fantastic managers. I would have to say that a great manager is one who takes the talant that he has and builds a system that utilizes each of their talants to the greatest amount. By doing this and emphisizing on team he/she has the best chance for success. The buying and selling of players is more a business fuction that is managed from people in the front office.
Now with the new proposed Uefa regs with home grown talant will force European clubs to build from within. so the best trainers will ironically be discovered in the youth teams of these clubs. these people will have the responcibility of nurture young talant so the big clubs will be able to compete/survive in the future.
Remember in the end a great manager is judged not by the number of stars a team has or sold but on the team's record

I can see Balla making a move after the 2006 world cup. At that point he will be approaching 30 years of age and the prospects for National team activity will diminish. It really can come down how FCB competes in europe in the next two years. If they don't win a champions league title he might want to go somewhere where he can. I don't think winning German titles will satify him going forward. He will more than likely try to move to a team that can, this might be in England or in Spain. Anyways Money and the ability to cement his legacy will do the talking. I do hope he stays at Bayern but I dont expect this.. I guess all we can hope is that he decides to stay
