It is good news--but remember they want to trim this squad by at least 4. Assuming that they keep their word, who the hell is going to be gone?

I think only Kuffour, lizarazu and Hashermian will leave. The other ones all will stay but must settle a lower wage just as Ze roberto.
Btw, Ze roberto doesn't want to stay in Europe too long as his kids are getting bigger, he wants to return home. So after 2006, i guess Bayern should prepare to find someone else.

Replacing Scholl and Ze Roberto after 2006 will be a primary concern...
As far as the four players to be released, I would look first at age, then contract expiration, then playing time, and lastly years with the organization. I think Magath has proven he is a man who enjoys bringing up young talent and developing them... thus "age". Contract expiration and quality minutes on the pitch are givens. Years with the organization... I think Munich tends to "award" those who are committed to the team/club by granting them their last wish... as is the case with Scholl... retiring from the club he played so brilliantly for. I think the same perhaps may go for Jeremies and maybe even Zickler.
Really... I don't know shite... just rambling at this point. ;)

My 2 cents, pick 4 out of those guys: Linke, Rau, Hashemian, Demichelis, Kovac and Kuffour.
And what about Liza? How long is his contract?

Well the problem with that is that most of those players are defenders. Now I am not saying they could'nt go --but that would almost be half of our defensive team. I think Lahm is coming next season???
Yes to Hashemian
But I would also think that we might be losing one or two midfielders.

Lahm is coming, there are rumors about Bayern buying Huth or Mertesacker, so I guess it'd be no problem if 2 or 3 defenders leave. I'm not sure about Jeremies though, but other than him I don't see a midfielder leave Bayern in the summer.
My ultimate guess would be:
Linke, Liza, Demichelis, Rau and Hashemian
That would leave Kovac, Kuffour, Lucio, Sagnol, Görlitz, Brazzo, Lahm and 1 new central defender.

About 7 or 8 for the back line sounds better. I would not be surprised if Kuffour leaves after all the speculation from abroad. I can see Jeremies leaving, but I won't be too surprised if another midfielder goes. Hargreaves might also leave.

Jeremies, Owen will stay, i believe. Jeremies wants to end his career as a Bayern player and owen will stay as long as he's given a chance to play.

I agree that Owen will stay as long as he gets to play but I think I have read that he has moe interest in Playing for the English National team. If he feels he has a better chance of making this happen by playing somewhere else I wouldnt be suprised to see him leave. It is important that he plays in high profile champions league games against some of the best players in the world. If he is able to do this and perform well the English National team will have to take notice.. if not I see him leaving and playing for some mid-level premiership club next year.

Owen has already stated that wants to leave ---soon. The Midfield is getting a little bloated. Somone has got to go. Remember--cut the team by 4-5 players. And don't forget they gaining Lahm next year. Granted, I think most "departures" willl be from the backline, but there is a strong possibility a midfielder or two is leaving.

What about Zickler, Linke, Kuffour, and Liza. I know that sounds like a lot off the backline but we are overloaded with defensive midfield and utility players-Frings and Brazzo have played all over this season. I think a lot of this depends on how we do in the Champions League the farther we go the more money we get and the less we have to worry about wages.
Kahn-Sagnol, Lucio, Lahm, Kovac/Brazzo-Owen/Ze, Deisler, Ballack, Frings-Pizarro/JPG, Makaay
looks like a good line up to me!

Kuffour will definitely be leaving Bayern. He feels it is time to go.

Scroll down to the bottom and look on the right side for the PRESS PASS subsection to see a video of an interview with Sammy. Not much about club, more about country and his future, which certainly lies elsewhere.

Welcome to the Bayern board Mandragola. Let's be honest, Bayern are having a great year--and a big part of that is the depth of the squad. Its too bad they are going to cut the squad down by a few players. But,heh, maybe a couple this year and a few more the next year.
