If you're in the US, interested in watching Champions' League coverage for the rest of the season on ESPN Deportes (irrespective of the Setanta Residential rumors for the next season), and want to put pressure on ESPN + your cable/satellite company to get this channel, please go to the following thread and help out:
http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=166919
By Sunday, I'll be drafting emails to various people, and post them in that thread. If you want to send emails on your own, or want to call people on those phone numbers, go ahead. Whatever you do, please keep all correspondence professional, and don't use any insulting language.
Thanks.

The reason why many satellite/cable providers don't provide ESPN Deportes is because ESPN is demanding too much money for it. Take for example the YES Network, broadcasting companies pay YES $2.00 per subscriber a month to carry the channel but the demand for that particular channel far outweighs the cost. As for the ESPN Deportes channel, the champions league would be a great addition to the lineup but all of the channels other programming can be found on ESPN and ESPN 2 so there is not a major upside for broadcasters to pick up the channel.

In other words, you would rather watch nothing at all than watch it in another language? How about the commentator's accents? Would you insist on a telecast in an accent specific to a certain region?
As for me personally, I would watch the telecasts in Martian if they were available. Football is football, and if the commentary isn't agreeable, I could always lower the volume. The action on the field would explain for itself in its global language.
Anyhow, thanks for your attention to this matter.

That's exactly the purpose of this effort - To convinve Lino Garcia that his asking price is too high, and to pursuade him to lower the asking price. Stay tuned.

What? you have changed the reason why you want ESPN Deportes now? then there is a way to catch the CL in many different languages. Why do you want it on ESPN Deportes?
Remember our argument many months ago? You said your desire to see ESPN Deportes is mainly you want your neighbour "Jose Blow", a Latino who doesn't know anything about European soccer (Barcelona and Rangers in particular), to get educated on the European game. This is the "we have to promote the Champions League to Americans" angle. That's why you want ESPN Deportes such that when you have a conversation with him, you can talk about Barcelona, simply tell him to tune to "ESPN Deportes on his cable to catch Barcelona's CL games", instead of talking Brett Favre or Cal Ripken or the Red Sox.
I must admit, your angle is pretty unique. You are the only one who tries to promote European soccer, especially Barcelona, to the Latino Americans. I guess that's a noble goal why we all want to see ESPN Deportes...
So, is your Latino neighbor who doesn't know anything about Barcelona and European soccer signing the letters too?

Hi there!
I live in L.A. and my cable provider (Adelphia) does not offer ESPN Deportes. So, my question is, does anybody who happens to live in the area know of any sports bars that do have Deportes?
Thanks a lot in advance!

Sports bar do not use ESPN Deportes. ESPN Deportes is carried primarily by digital cable in this country.
Sports bars show ESPN Latin America or ESPN DOS. They pull the games down from the Mexican DBS, which is either DirectV Latin America or Sky Mexico.
They are the same games. In fact, ESPN Deportes was launched mainly to show the niche sports carried in ESPN Latin America.
Since you live in L.A., there are plenty of sports bars carrying Mexican DBS.

I am from LA too. Try Fox and Hounds in Studio City or there is a new pub called White Hart Lane in Woodland Hills (same owner). You also might want to try Lucky Baldwin's in Pasadena. But call first.

Thanks everybody. I know "Fox and Hounds" on Ventura, but they just have the regular cable channels. I'll try the other one, though, when I can find it (I live in Tarzana, so it shouldn't be too hard to find).
To my big surprise, Adelphia yesterday added the channel to my digital cable line-up upon my request - after numerous phone calls... They just had no idea what I was talking about, almost as frustrating as with Euro 2004 last summer... But I'm set now for the CL.

And who are you to define "normal" for other people? given that it's "you"...
Chandu, BozoFan, Kotto Bass, all have admitted using BT to watch games. So are you saying that they are not normal?

hahahah that's so funny Chandu's goal, to promote european soccer????????? hahhaaaaaaaaaaa, that's a crazy goal, to spend money and time trying to get espn deportes just for that? to change the mind of your neighbor? and what if he doesn't change his mind? if he's south american, he is not going to change his mind, we love our soccer, we're so proud of our south american soccer, we're proud of our players, and we just feel compassion about european soccer :D your soccer is nothing without south american players :) that's just my personal thinking, but i don't care if somebody doesn;t agree with me, i don't going to spend time and money trying to get you a south american channel to make you change your mind, but anyways, chandu's goal is very nice, and i would love to have espndeportes, as long if they transmite south american soccer, just say me where i have to sign.
take care

In the first post there, there are bunch of phone numbers to call. There is also a number I've heard of: 1-877-PIDE-ESPN.
Right now, I'm inviting all of my neighborhood on Saturday and Sunday mornings (sometimes starting at 4:30 AM) to watch English Premiership, Serie A, La Liga, and Bundesliga on my 4 computers through Coolstreaming. Overflow crowd goes downstairs and fights out among themselves whether to watch GolTV or FoxSoccerChannel. On Champions' League matchdays, I'll be inviting the neighborhood and some more from the community to see the power of live Coolstreaming. :D I think I also need to send an obligatory check to Xinyan Zhang in Hong Kong to keep Coolstreaming alive. I just don't know if it will be enough before the Champions' League final.
