Ok, so here's my deal:

I'm staying right by the UAB practice fields where the USA will be training prior to the game. Being under 25, I won't be able to rent a car, so I figure I can catch a cab to and from the airports, but I'm hearing there might be shuttles run out of Five Points South, so that'd be a nice way to save some cash.

Also, if anyone passing through that area would be willing to give us poor bastards like me rides to and from the game, that'd be outstanding.

So let's put all that info right here.

I like SABuffalo am in need of a ride. I'll be coming from Mexico so I might smell bad - i'll try to minimize that - and I'm looking to save some dough. anyway, i'm 25 so if some people wanna split car costs, i'd be willing to rent. SABuffalo, what hotel you shacking up at - i might try and get the same one for convenience purposes.

It's the Best Western Medical Center Inn right by the UAB campus, like I said. I believe the address is 800 11th Street South. But, I have to take off for work here in a few, so I'll have to verify later this afternoon.

It's right in Five Points South, so hopefully I can just hoof it to any potential shuttle pickup sites.

I'm staying in that same general vicinity and will most likely have a car unless it becomes clear that shuttle buses to the stadium are going be running that night. Let's stay in touch on this thread. We'll make sure everyone gets to the stadium.

Hell, maybe I should just rent U-Haul truck and we can all pile in the back!

Dude, if you're gonna go to the Mexico game, we could rent a U-Haul in Mexico and then try and sneak over the border and make it to the game. :) (Insensitive joke - but a joke nonetheless).

Actually, JoeSoccerFan said he got a good rate and we talked about sharing a rental car.

I'm arriving on Tuesday afternoon and leaving Thursday morning. I have an extra room available for $45/night at the Residence Inn (http://marriott.com/property/propertypage.mi?marshaCode=BHMOX) which is about 10-15 miles away from the southside. This is an employee rate (I can only get 2 rooms at this rate). I like Residence Inns because you get free breakfast, refridgerator and separate sitting area.

Here is my Itinerary:
Tuesday, March 29 - BALTIMORE-WASHNTN(BWI) to BIRMINGHAM AL(BHM)
Flight 856 V
Depart BALTIMORE-WASHNTN(BWI) at 04:10PM and
Arrive in BIRMINGHAM AL(BHM) at 05:20PM

Thursday, March 31 - BIRMINGHAM AL(BHM) to BALTIMORE-WASHNTN(BWI)
Flight 102 V
Depart BIRMINGHAM AL(BHM) at 07:25AM and
Arrive in BALTIMORE-WASHNTN(BWI) at 10:15AM

Let me know if my schedule works for you - if we can share a rental.

I can attest to this - :D

I ended up with a free rental car certificate so I can ferry a few folks around Wednesday afternoon and possibly to the airport on Thursday AM.

PM me if you need a lift.

This my first post :) . I only found this board while trying to get info on this game. Congrats board owner and mods, I love the info I have read so far.
Anyway, just to let anyone know that there are still rooms at the Pickwick Hotel that was mentioned here. Total was $99.50 (includes taxes) thru Hotels.com. Thats a standard room for 1-4 people. I hope the hotel is packed with fans and we can hook up and party after the game.

My wife (A Brit) gets asked all the time how she ended up in NW Florida but you, as a Brit in Dothan, must be met with pure astonishment!

They nearly all think I'm an Aussie(Gooday Sport!). Or either think I'm from Opp AL  ???
They all wonder how I got here cos I don't drive a Big ol' truurrrck. I just say my wife got me on Ebay!! :D
Where in NW FL are you? Are you going to the game?

My wife and I are at the Pickwick, and have room for a couple folks to and from the match, and of course the pre and post match festivities.

Your recommendation sounded good and my buddies and I (4 of us total) will also be staying at the Pickwick -- though the price was up to $110 on Hotels.com (when I called the hotel they alleged they were sold out). We are traveling in an SUV and will also have room for 1-2 extras depending on how much you are willing to squeeze in. We will be attending all pre and post match activities.

5 Points Bar and Grill looks good for some festivities, and close to the Pickwick Hotel.

The wife was living here while dumping her ex- husband. She found me online while I was dumping my ex-wife (while running a pub in Croydon, South London). Dothan is cheaper than London, just celebrated our 3rd anniversary Dec.

I've never been to London(though I'm dying to) but I'd imagine culture shock is a possibility after moving to Dothan. I'm gonna be watching England-Azerbaijan on the 30th before the US game.

CULTURE SHOCK  is an understatement. Getting used to it now after 4 yrs.
I will already be in B'ham when the England game starts, prob 2pm cst kick-off. If you know where the game is being shown that afternoon i'd definitely owe you a beer. We're staying at the Pickwick so an England win before the US game would just make an excellent day :D :D

try the Mexican place called Sabor Tropical. It's within 50 feet of the Pickwick. The Arena may also have FSC. It's across the street from the Pickwick.

Anyone with ideas for cheap transportation, let me know, please. I can't rent a car for less than $70 (for less than a 48 hour stay, mind you, that's just too damn much money), and public transportation doesn't serve the airport.

I have no doubt that a taxi ride from the airport to downtown probably costs at least $25, one way. Anyone that can carpool me, I would gladly pay $10.
