Ryan was a steal
BLACKBURN boss Mark Hughes today hailed Ryan Nelsen as the bargain of the season.
The New Zealand international, who joined Rovers on a free in the January transfer window, was exceptional on his full home debut against Chelsea in midweek.
Now Hughes looks set to keep faith with the Kiwi for tomorrow's Premiership clash with Middlesbrough at the Riverside after being hugely impressed by the way the 27-year-old has adapted to the demands of English football.
The Rovers boss said: "Ryan has come in here on a free transfer and it's the best bit of business I have done.
"It just shows you do not have to spend millions to get good players.
"Ryan was excellent against Chelsea, but so was the whole team, and we will take a level of confidence that we can compete at the highest level."
Nelsen looked impressive alongside Andy Todd at the heart of Rovers' defence on Wednesday as Hughes experimented with a new 4-1-4-1 formation that also featured Aaron Mokoena in a holding midfield role.

What kind of pisses me off is I imagine Blackburn would have laughed at MLS, say a year ago, if the league asked for $1 million for Nelsen.

If it's a Nelsen jersey you may be propositioned to sell it.

That would bring up quite a few interesting reposnses from the supporters website!!!
Actually, we (Rovers supporters) had a mini "reunion" last year during the first LA match (where freddy had the great left foot and we all try to froget Rimando's forgetful span of 3 goals in 9 minutes). 6 of us clad in Blue & White all crowding in the expanse of section 138. Until the one west-coaster of our group sported his circa 96 Galaxy jersey (the one like the crayon box) and started calling over Albright.
At some point, one of the Galaxy (Suarez maybe?) came over and offered to pay the guy to remove the old galaxy shirt. Not quite the same propositioning, but still damned funny.
Ironically, we later ran into a quite intoxicated Albright's mom later that evening. I will say that she definitely goes all out to defend her son, except she agreed with my challenge that he needs a haircut.

I just saw the same comments about Nellie in the ESPN preview of the Rovers next game. Great to see the positive comments directly from the coach, especially after all the cracks about him being on a sub-standard kiwi squad and coming from a lesser league on the Rovers supporters boards. I hope the Rovers stick it to Boro this weekend.

Wonder what reaction I'd get wearing my autographed DC United Nelsen jersey at a Blackburn match? Think I'd get home with it? Or, maybe I should have another shirt underneath in case a Rovers supporter wanted to swap jerseys?
