Quango gave me the idea to start this thread so here it is.

I really would like to follow a team in Spain and especially in Madrid however Real is out of the question. I've seen Torres play on t.v. and I really like what he can do. So here it is- the thread to talk and learn more about Atlético.

Atletico is in 9th currently (ahead on GD to my team, Osasuna), so I'm not really rooting for them. They've been a little inconsistent this season, dropping from Euro places to the bottom half and back up.

From some of the other threads that have been going around recently, Atletico was originally formed (1902 or 03?) by Athletic Bilbao fans and players in Madrid. The red and white striped jersey is borrowed from them. It seems like their relationship is not pleasant any longer.

Perhaps a moderator could merge the few Atletico threads below this into your new thread if appropriate.

Although I'm not rooting for Atletico, I have no love for Barca either, so good luck this weekend.

Barca v. A.Madrid

Torres scores in the 2nd minute!!
"Ibagaza flicked the ball forward and Torres timed his run to perfection, out-sprinting Puyol, before sidefooting past Valdes and into the bottom right"

Atleti!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes! Great win.

Before the game, Atleti had won 1 game away from home this season. And Barcelona had not lost at home since late 2003.

Real, you owe this team big-time!

Great game vs Barca. The stars of the game for Atleti, IMO: 1) Perea (unbelievable play, great speed). 2) Torres 3) Colsa (great defense) 4)Pablo Ibanez (defense).

I hope Torres stays in Madrid instead of going to Barca as is rumoured. It is a more interesting league when great talent is distributed to more than just a few clubs.

I'm not disagreeing with you, but I'd say keeping Perea is probably as important to the future success of Atletico as Torres. Torres certainly is talented but he's still developing and his reputation has a lot to do with his potential, imo. If Atletico sold him they'd probably get enough cash to buy a quite suitable replacement, although it'd be tough on them to lose their young icon. Perea is an excellent player and has already peaked the interest of some big teams in Italy, iirc.

Nice result vs. Barça, by the way. Good weekend for teams from Madrid. :D

I just watched the first half. I have never seen Perea play before and  he is fast AND good. Judging from what I've seen in only 45min of him playing some big times clubs MUST be after him this summer.

Atletico last two results were 0-0 in the league match vs. Levante and yesterday Torres converted a penalty as Atletico won 1-0 over Numancia. The last four teams are Athletic de Bilbao, Atlético de Madrid, Betis y Osasuna. If Atletico win the cup they have a spot in next years UEFA Cup. On Sunday Atletico travel to Villarreal where a win could pull them to within one point of Villarreal for the 7th spot in the table.

What happen with nuñez? I heard that he attacked a Atleti's suportter after the match with Levante,Las peñas are asking to the directive that he doesn´t play for Atleti never more.

About Perea, look how fast he is.

This is a measure only on the first 20 meters

20 metres:

Tim Montgomery - 3,00 seg
Linford Christie - 2,91 seg
Dennis Mitchel - 2,87 seg

LUIS AMARANTO PEREA -2,84 seg
so he has best acceleration that them, the most funny is that he was born in a city call Turbo
