I'd heard the MetroStars were attempting to bring in a Charlton midfielder, and considering their limited funds, I assumed it to be either on a free transfer or a fairly small transfer fee. I see Stuart is going to Norwich, so does anybody have a clue whom it might be? Euell?

Let's see…
Barry Fuller
Stacy Long
Neil McCafferty
Lloyd Sam
McCafferty is on a month's loan to Rushden and Diamonds. He is considered small but is a good playmaker. It might be good experience for him, but I doubt he want to go to the U.S.
Sam is a pacy right wing player. He could be exciting in the MLS. I was hoping to see him break through to the senior squad this year, but it hasn't happened yet. Again, it would be great experience for him. Don't know if he would be interested.
Fuller and Long are very young for Curbs to use even on the subs bench.
Any of these could go over. It just depends on what the Metros are looking for -- starters, subs or reserves.
One could only guess the mind of Coach Bradley. Look who he has traded away as of late…

I think that a Lloyd Sam to Metros would restart rumors that he is eligable for the USMNT.
Charlton turned down 2.5 million Pounds for Euell from Crystal Palace. I do not think that Curbs would part with the highest priced acquisition for cheep. I would bet that if Bradley is looking for someone to play now it would be Sam or McCafferty.

Turns out it was Robinson, coming out of retirement and going to camp with them in Florida. I guess his hamstring issues are behind him; or at least he and the Metros hope.
Thanks to those that responded.

Robinson who? I have only been an Addick a few years. I am not familiar with this Robinson.

I know John Robinson said he had to hang them up at Cardiff because he felt he had nothing to contribute and that he was getting gimpy. So now he comes to MLS? Sure makes MLS look like an English League One side.

MLS may look like league one, but it is easier to get those hammys going in the warmer weather.
Besides, now that MLS has extended the Senior International numbers and created reserve teams, why not take a tour of the States and play in the warm sun? I hope he has a good time.
Can anyone enlighten me on his exact position in the midfield and his skills? After all, if he makes it as a starter, he will play against my Wizards.

John Robinson played 10 seasons for Charlton and was Alan's first transfer move. He even had a testimonial in his last season with the club when Porto came to The Valley.
John was a very hard working player. Think of Graham Stuart only with more pace and intensity. He was a very dedicated player. He also was a regular in Wales national team squad.
He does play on the right wing. I don't know how much pace he has anymore considering the hamstring problem. However, he will give far more than 100%. He is constantly brought up on the Charlton boards in England and is considered the standard under which most supporters rate our newer players.

Thanks, kev.
So, if Rommedahl could defend like Robinson, our right wing problem wouldn't exist. And Dennis would start every match.

Well, John Robinson is not headed to MLS. This was in todays Bulletin from CAFC:
A former Charlton player will be appearing live on Sky tonight as John
Robinson makes his debut for Conference side Crawley Town.
The ex-Welsh international winger signed with the club on Friday until the
end of the season - and he could start in style by appearing in tonight's
match against Morecombe.
How sad is this? This is not the way I'd like to John finish his career. :(

As long as he's happy, who cares where he finishes things out. :)

Just some additional information that came through the CAFC Bulletin today on John Robison:
The former Welsh international wing wizard told the Valley Review recently
that he was to attend a trial with American side New York/New Jersey
Metrostars at the end of January.
A Bulletin source reveals Robbo spent 10 days Stateside before deciding it
wasn't the right move for him. The Metrostars subsequently signed former
Bolton Wanderers attacker and World Cup winner Youri Djorkaeff.
